Medical Assistant (MA)

Position Summary:

We are seeking a compassionate, detail-oriented Medical Assistant (MA) to join our clinical team. The MA provides both clinical and administrative support to healthcare providers, ensuring high-quality patient care in a fast-paced environment. This position may be based at either our Willcox clinic.

Key Responsibilities:Clinical Duties:
  • Prepare exam rooms and sterilize equipment.

  • Record patient history, vital signs, and chief complaints.

  • Assist with exams, procedures, and treatments.

  • Administer injections and vaccines per provider orders.

  • Collect lab specimens (blood, urine, swabs) and perform CLIA-waived tests.

  • Accurately document care in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR).

  • Relay test results and prescription information as directed.

  • Monitor quality control measures (e.g., equipment, refrigerator logs).

  • Triage patients and provide urgent support as needed.

Administrative Duties:
  • Schedule appointments and manage incoming calls.

  • Maintain and file medical records, reports, and documentation.

  • Initiate referrals and obtain insurance authorizations.

  • Distribute patient education materials and provide general medical information.

  • Coordinate with front office and clinical staff as needed.

Secondary Functions:
  • Offer emotional support to patients and families.

  • Participate in team meetings, training, and quality initiatives.

  • Cross-train in front and back office roles.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:Education & Experience:
  • High school diploma or GED required.

  • Prior experience as a Medical Assistant preferred.

  • Formal training and/or certification strongly preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
  • Knowledge of medical terminology and clinical protocols.

  • Proficient in phlebotomy, injections, and routine medical tasks.

  • Familiar with EMR systems and medical coding (ICD-9/CPT).

  • Excellent communication, multitasking, and organizational skills.

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team.

Certifications & Licensure:
  • Medical Assistant Certification:

    • Completion of an approved MA training program OR

    • Completion of an unapproved program + certification from a nationally accredited body (as per Arizona Administrative Code).

  • CPR/BLS Certification:

    • Current certification required (American Heart Association).

  • Fingerprint Clearance Card:

    • Required for Pediatric Behavioral Health Sites – must have or apply within 7 days of employment.

  • Urine Specimen Collection Training:

    • Preferred.
