POSITION
SUMMARY:
This position is a
great opportunity for Pre-Med, Pre-PA, and Pre-Nursing students. Duties
to perform include administrative and clinical tasks in a healthcare setting,
including greeting patients, scheduling appointments, taking vital signs, preparing
examination rooms, recording medical histories, assisting with patient
examinations, collecting specimens like blood or urine samples, and maintaining
patient records, under the supervision of the clinic manager and a licensed
healthcare provider.

FULL JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Provides excellent customer service and thoughtful patient care
- Team centered approach to working with providers and other clinic staff.
- Review schedules and prepare patient charts in advance and adjust appointment type, time slot based on the reason for the patients visit
- Contact patients in advance if more information is needed prior to appointment
- Obtain patient medical records as needed
- Ensure the correct appointment template is set up to reflect the requirements of the appointment type
- Communicate any special requests or needs for each visit to the Front Office
- Conduct an initial patient assessment and assign them to the appropriate treatment room
- Accurately collect clinical data such as patient preferences, medical history, medication lists, allergies, and document their chief complaint and medication refill requests
- Accurately obtain patient vital sign information (height, weight, O2 saturation, blood pressure, pulse, respirations, and temperature) and assess for normal and abnormal ranges
- Accurately perform urine screenings, rapid testing, visual and hearing screenings, EKG and other point of care testing
- Prepare, administer and document medications and immunizations via correct route and recognize adverse reaction
- Perform and process phlebotomy accurately and process lab orders
- Process medication refills, complete patient call backs and referrals
- Intermittent front office coverage
- Complete post visit check-in with provider to review patient needs, follow up appointment requirements, referral requirements, and medical orders are completed
- Prepare exam rooms by sanitizing & stocking all materials
- Familiarity with basic medical terminology, procedures, and medical office functions
- Accurate documentation and verbal communication to providers
- Review provider worklists (“buckets”) in Athena and help to manage and complete tasks
- Work as a team with your coworkers to cover providers in the clinic
- Obtain complete information for patient cases and respond to patient cases within 24 hours
- Maintains active knowledge of & compliance with HIPAA requirements
- Additional duties as assigned
EXPERIENCE & REQUIREMENTS:
- Previous experience in a physician’s office preferred
- Strong organizational skills
- Understanding of basic patient care and emergency response
- BLS CPR Certification
- Ability to thrive in a fast-pasted environment and work well as part of a team
- Strong communication skills
- Demonstrates compassion and empathy with team members and patients
- Must have the safety and well-being of every patient as the highest priority.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent
PHYSICAL/MENTAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Prolonged standing and walking
· Frequent bending, reaching, lifting and moving patients (sometimes with assistance)
· Must be able to lift/pull up to 50 pounds
· Performing tasks requiring manual dexterity and good hand-eye coordination
· Able to maintain good posture and mobility throughout the workday; this can involve kneeling, crouching, and stooping depending on the situation.
