Position Title: Medical Assistant
Job Summary: A medical assistant is a vital member of the healthcare team responsible for supporting providers and other healthcare professionals in delivering patient care. They perform both administrative and clinical tasks to ensure the efficient operation of medical facilities and the well-being of patients.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Patient Intake: Greet and prepare patients for examination, including taking vital signs (blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiration rate).
- Medical History: Collect and record patients' medical histories, including current medications and any known allergies.
- Assisting in Examinations: Prepare examination rooms, assist healthcare providers during medical procedures, and provide necessary equipment and supplies.
- EKG: Administer electrocardiograms (ECGs) and Pulmonary Function Tests (PFT's)
- Medication Administration: Administer medications and vaccines, adhering to established protocols.
- Wound Care: Clean and dress wounds, change bandages, and assist with minor surgical procedures.
- Patient Education: Offer guidance on medications, treatment plans, and self-care instructions as directed by healthcare providers.
- Specimen Collection: Collect and prepare laboratory specimens for testing, ensuring accurate labeling and tracking.
- Emergency Response: Assist in emergency situations as directed by Nurse and/or Provider
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Completion of a formal medical assistant training program.
- Certification/License: Current certification as a Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA)
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Proficiency in medical terminology and the use of electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Clinical Skills: Competence in taking vital signs, administering injections, and conducting basic laboratory tests.
- Computer Skills: Proficiency in using medical software for scheduling and charting.
- Ethics: Adherence to medical ethics and patient confidentiality (HIPAA).
- Flexibility: Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic healthcare environment and adapt to changing tasks and priorities.
- Physical Fitness: The role may require lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods.
