Job Title:              Mechatronics Engineer Canada

Reports to:         Engineering Manager

 

Job Summary

This position would provide the design of mechanical equipment and the programming of robots related to fresh produce or other equipment that Volm Companies would provide to their customer base. The position would be responsible for working alongside design engineers/mechanical designers from concept to issuing for fabrication or working alongside robotics engineers/on their own commissioning automation systems. Individuals would be responsible for meeting the needs of the project requirements with respect to equipment functionality laid out for the project. The final deliverables are expected to be fully commissioned systems ready for site installation.

Essential Duties

·         Hands on mechanical design to create parts/assembly models and drawings in Solidworks working within the Vault/PDM environment.

·         Navigate and modify 2D AutoCad drawings.

·         Identify areas of improvement in product design/quality and propose solutions.

·         Possess knowledge of Kuka robotic integration and engineering

·         Interference Zone Configuration

·         I/O Configuration

·         Auto Debug/troubleshooting with Omron PLC

·         Kuka Safe Op/Safe Move

·         Robot Mastering, Tool Center Point (TCP), Off-line Programming (OLP) and payload

·         Responsible for driving product standardization and cost improvement targets while maintaining quality standards.

·         Help establish new standards and maintain existing standards.

·         Work collaboratively with mechanical/electrical/mechatronics designers/engineers and other internal staff

·         Combine design skills and mechanical aptitude to create mechanical designs of equipment for fresh produce and food processing facilities.

·         Interface with clients, suppliers, contractors, and other relevant authorities to gain necessary information required to successfully complete mechanical designs.

·         Understand and ensure compliance with relevant health and safety standards for Canada and United States

·         Support Sales team in pre-sales technical concept and costing activities

·         Interpret project requirements, identify, and address design parameters and engineering problems.

·         Assist with Vendor inquiries and sales representative follow-up.

·         Create Project Scopes and Functional requirements to govern development of designs and solutions for equipment manufacturing.

·         Create document templates for sales inquiries, requests for quotes, project scope definition and other Volm Canada Standard Documents

·         Assist in gathering and creation of videos and pictures as required.

·         Work within standardized business practices and workflows to maintain consistency and predictability in deployment of the Equipment Business Plan

·         Create proper BOMs and deliverable drawings with sufficient detail necessary for vendors to provide accurate quotes or for in house manufacturing.

·         Listen, understand, and convey customer/equipment requirements.

 

Required Skills and Abilities

·         Proficiency in mechanical design using Solidworks

·         Proficiency in Kuka robot programming

·         Understanding of Omron PLCs

·         Excellent interpersonal, communication, analytical and problems solving skills.

·         MS Office skills, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Project

·         Understanding of Gantt Charts and a commitment to meeting timelines.

·         Ability to work on multiple projects at one time and adaptable to change.

·         Highly self-motivated and available and willing to work overtime, weekends, and holidays to meet project commitments.

·         Have a valid passport or can obtain one within 6 months of hire date.

 

Education and Experience

·         Diploma or professional training certification in Mechanical Engineering or Technologist is required.        

·         Minimum of 5 years of experience with mechanical design of packaging equipment/automation industry is required.

 

Physical Requirements

·         Ability to stand, walk, and move around for extended periods of time.

·         Capability to lift and carry objects of various weights.

·         Proficiency in using hands, fingers, and arms for tasks such as typing or writing.

·         Sufficient visual acuity to read documents, recognize details at close and distant ranges.

·         Ability to hear and understand verbal communication.

·         Flexibility to bend, stoop, and reach low or high objects.

·         Ability to perform physical tasks, such as walking, lifting, pushing, pulling, stooping, reaching repetitive motions.

·         Adaptability to work in varying environmental conditions, such as temperature extremes, noise, dust, or fumes, depending on the nature of the job.

·         Willingness to adhere to safety protocols and wear protective gear, including helmets, goggles, gloves, and safety shoes, as required by the job.

Travel Requirements

This position requires occasional overnight travel and occasional travel within the workday.   

 

Driver Qualification

The ability to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle on behalf of the company is required. Inclusion in the company’s driver qualification program is required to drive a company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle.

 

Becoming a qualified driver includes:

·         Agree to the company driving policies that apply to company owned/leased vehicle or personal vehicle as applicable.

·         Possess and maintain a valid driver license and be a minimum of 21 years of age.

·         Maintain an acceptable driving record, as evidenced by completion of a baseline motor vehicle record check and ongoing monitoring.

·         When driving a personal vehicle on behalf of the company, must provide a copy of the declaration page from personal auto insurance that shows the policy dates and minimum coverage amounts ($300,000 bodily injury per accident/$100,000 property damage per accident or if driving less than 5 hours/200 miles a year $50,000 bodily injury per accident/$10,000 property damage per accident or the state minimum, whichever is more). This requirement is initially and then annually thereafter.
