Mechanic Supervisor

North Saanich, BC Full-time $49.13-$51.73/hour

Career Opportunity:

Reporting to the Director, Airside Operations & Safety, the Mechanic Supervisor is responsible for ensuring all Victoria Airport Authority (VAA) mobile fleet and mechanical equipment is inspected, serviced and maintained in compliance with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. The Mechanic Supervisor leads a small and busy team of mechanics with a strong emphasis on safety, quality and efficiency. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership abilities, in conjunction with a continuous improvement/ preventative maintenance mindset, to support and promote operational excellence within the department.


The Mechanic Supervisor is a working mechanic position however it involves significant administrative duties, including staff management, scheduling, budgeting, procurement, and documentation. The Mechanic Supervisor is a Union position that normally works a 40-hour work week. This position is eligible for overtime along with a comprehensive compensation and benefits package, which includes a defined benefit pension plan (BC Municipal Pension Plan). 


Requirements:

   Qualifications

  • Red Seal Heavy Duty Mechanic or Commercial Transport Certification is required.
  • A minimum of five (5) years combined Mechanic supervisory experience and/or management of contractors and consultants. *
  • A valid British Columbia Class 3 Drivers’ License, with air brakes endorsement, however preference may be given to applicants holding a Class 1 License with air brake endorsement.


   Skills and Experience

  • Expert mechanical skills on a wide variety of vehicles and equipment.
  • Previous experience with fleet management planning, acquisition (RFP’s) and maintenance.
  • Previous experience managing departmental budgets of similar size and scope.
  • Proficient in using a wide variety of software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite.

   Required Security Clearance

  • Within six (6) months of hire the Mechanic Supervisor must obtain and maintain the appropriate level of Airport Security Clearance (RAIC)** as well as the following certifications: 
    • Airside Vehicle Operator Permit (D)
    • Radio Operator's Certificate - Aeronautical
