MECHANIC JOB DESCRIPTION
Summary: Perform mechanical repairs on commercial vehicles in Truck Shop, using tools, knowledge, teamwork, training, and problem-solving skills. Present to the customer a professional self-image and company image through excellent service, safe operation, and timeliness. Maintain working area and equipment in compliance with Company guidelines. Perform necessary documentation and timely and correctly according to procedures in effect. Requirements

Possess the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Must possess the ability to compete rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.

Demonstrates a background and up-to-date industry knowledge on diesel mechanics and diesel engines.
Demonstrates a high aptitude for problem-solving, the ability to diagnose and proactively solve problems relating to repairs.
Understanding of mechanical devices.
Ability to furnish own tools sufficient to complete daily work.
Responsibilities
Run diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpreting the results to offer suitable solutions.
Inspect vehicle systems, including suspensions, steering and exhausts.
Repair or replace vehicle transmissions, brakes, engines, and other associated parts.
Completing oil changes, wheel balancing, alignment, and brake checks.
Welding and fabrication as needed.
Swap clutches, hydraulic work, fixing lights, diagnosing and troubleshooting engine codes, exterior engine work.
Troubleshoot and repair or replace issues relating to DEF systems, fuel systems, and air systems.

Responsibilities
Arrive at work on time daily, ready for duty when shift starts.
Maintain consistently excellent attendance.
Attend employee meetings as requested for job and safety information.
Conduct field visits and provide roadside service in the case of an emergency or sudden breakdown.
Assist in training new employees when requested, communicating clearly and professionally all proper techniques and methods.
Maintaining records of parts inventory and serviced vehicles as needed. Communicate with others to ensure serviced vehicles maintain organized documentation in accordance with Company procedures.
Keeps shop equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, and preventative maintenance.

Executes repairs of vehicles and equipment in a way that will ensure the completion of service will provide safe functionality in accordance with operating instructions.
Wears proper personal protective equipment and takes all safety precautions in day-to-day operations.
Responsibilities
Complies with state vehicle requirements by testing engine, safety, and combustion control standards.
Utilizes shop equipment, tools, and mechanical devices in compliance with operating instructions and Company procedures, with the highest level of safety in mind.
Immediately reports near misses, accidents, or perceived unsafe situations to supervisor with clear communication and urgency.
Performs repairs and operation of vehicles, mechanics, and shop equipment with situational awareness, always using 3-points of contact, wearing proper uniform and personal protective equipment in accordance with industry safety standards and Company procedures.

Test drive repaired vehicles to gauge their performance and ensure a complete service. Complete repairs with highest quality of service in mind.
Utilize critical thinking during difficult projects or tasks, discover answers to problems using all resources available, then asking for support when no other solution is found.
Identify mechanical problems visually or with diagnostic equipment, use analytical skills to plan a route of solving the problem, and execute in a timely and high-quality manner.
