Material Planner Estimator

Venture Dynamics is seeking a Material Planner/Estimator. The Material Planner/Estimator is responsible for analyzing project specifications and technical documentation to estimate material needs and coordinating the procurement process to ensure timely, cost-effective delivery. This role requires strong collaboration with production, vendors, and internal teams to support project execution. The position may require hours beyond a standard work week with flexible schedule availability to support production/operations. Position may require limited travel.
Job Description:
Estimating Responsibilities:
- Analyze blueprints, drawings, specifications, and other documentation to develop accurate material estimates for ship repair projects.
- Identify scope of work and all job specific material requirements based on specifications and specific projects.
- Collaborate with estimating and project teams to clarify requirements and align estimates with scheduling and workload.
- Maintain material supplier directories for estimating and bidding purposes.
- Monitor ongoing projects for specification deviations that affect material needs.
- Perform data entry into the companies ERP system for estimated hours, material requirements and quotes for individual jobs.
Production Procurement Responsibilities:
- Prepare purchase requisitions, ensuring accuracy, timely delivery, and compliance with specifications and contract requirements.
- Monitor the full life cycle of purchase orders in procurement/accounting systems. Track Purchase order issuance from the Purchasing department and delivery details.
- Contact vendors to expedite deliveries, resolve delays, and communicate updates to internal stakeholders.
- Provide material status feedback to project team for schedule updates. Analyze supplier profiles and pricing to identify best-value vendors, emphasizing local sources when possible.
- Estimate material costs associated with change orders and project scope modifications. Maintain procurement records for compliance, cost tracking, and quality assurance.
- Resolve discrepancies with defective or incorrect goods in coordination with inspection and quality teams.
Qualifications:
- Must have a HS Diploma or equivalent and at least five (5) years of experience in shipyard, shipboard, or industrial procurement and at least two (2) years of material estimating experience.
- Must be familiar with marine vessel terminology and project specifications.
- Must have experience using procurement software.
- Must have a strong understanding of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook).
- Must be able to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and contracts.
- Must have excellent organizational, problem-solving, and negotiation skills as well as excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Must be able to handle multiple projects independently and meet tight deadlines.
- Knowledge of JOBBOSS and GSS ERP systems is a plus.
