Job Summary

We are seeking experienced First-Class (Journeyman) Marine Electricians to support U.S. Navy and commercial ship repair projects. Electricians will independently install, repair, and maintain shipboard electrical systems in compliance with NAVSEA standards and company safety/quality requirements. This role requires technical expertise, blueprint interpretation, and the ability to perform complex shipboard electrical work safely and efficiently.

Responsibilities
  • Inspect, test, install, remove, and repair shipboard electrical cabling and equipment in accordance with NAVSEA Standard Item (NSI) 009-73.

  • Complete cable installations, including banding, boxes, connectors, penetrations, cableways, hangers, and related components.

  • Perform stuffing tube work, MCTs, MCPs, bonding, and grounding of electrical equipment.

  • Follow WAF/tag-out procedures (NSI 009-25).

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and cable routing diagrams.

  • Assist and oversee installation of MBTs, ABTs, switchboards, and transformers.

  • Perform electrical fit-up using grinders, reciprocating saws, drills, and hand tools.

  • Maintain a clean and safe work environment; ensure compliance with all safety and environmental procedures.

  • Mentor and assist less-experienced electricians as needed.

Requirements
  • Minimum 5 years of shipboard electrical installation and repair experience at the First-Class (Journeyman) level.

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.

  • Must be 18 years or older and a U.S. Citizen.

  • Must pass pre-employment physical, drug test, and background screening.

  • Ability to obtain DBIDS/government facility access and shipyard clearance.

  • Must complete OSHA 10-Hour Maritime Training and all required Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) orientation prior to shipboard work.

  • Must have personal tools, including a multimeter and hand tools.

  • Ability to lift 50 lbs., work in confined spaces, climb ladders, and perform work aboard vessels.

  • Willingness to work overtime, weekends, and occasional travel (up to 30%).

  • Strong knowledge of electrical color codes, cable types, and motor testing.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Manual/Automatic Bus Transfers, Switchboards, Transformers, and complex shipboard electrical systems.

  • Previous work on both U.S. Navy and commercial vessels.

  • Familiarity with NAVSEA inspection and testing protocols.

Physical Requirements
  • Ability to carry, lift, climb, walk, crawl, crouch, kneel, stand, and work in hot, cold, dusty, or noisy environments.

  • Visual acuity sufficient to read blueprints and perform precision electrical work.

  • Adequate hearing and communication skills to ensure safety and coordination on shipboard work sites.

Working Relationships
  • Reports to Shop Supervisor.

  • Works closely with fellow electricians, craft foremen, and shipyard personnel in a team environment.

  • Expected to maintain positive, professional relationships with supervisors, peers, subcontractors, and customers.
