Overview:

In accordance with the mission, values and principles of Covenant House Toronto and the needs of young people, the Manager, Thrive provides leadership and oversight of up to 90 youth transitional housing program and supporting staff and youth in understanding the operationalization of the Covenant Philosophy. Thrive supports the needs of newcomer and refugee youth. 

The Thrive manager will ensure that services delivered are outcomes focused, clinically sound and in keeping with best practices, responsive to the needs of young people, consistent with evidence informed practice and compliant with agency policies and procedures. The Manager is responsible for ensuring that people & culture practices are consistent with agency policies and compliant with relevant legislation. As a member of the program management team, Manager, Thrive is responsible for managing strategic initiatives as assigned. Working collaboratively with the program management team, the manager has a key role in building the capacity of program staff to understand and utilize Trauma Informed and Harm Reduction practices integrating an anti-racist, equity, diversity, and inclusion lens.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for integration and provision of services to up to 90 youths in a transitional living program.
  • Responsible for ensuring that services delivered to youth are consistent with Covenant House principles, are outcomes focused, clinically sound and consistent with evidence informed practice (Trauma Informed Care, Harm Reduction and EDI (Equity, Diversity & Inclusion) framework.
  • Responsible for ensuring that services provided to young people are co-coordinated with other support service areas.
  • Preparing monthly reports; annual program budgets; monitoring equipment, inventory, and supplies for the program; reconciling petty cash.
  • Ensuring that standards of maintenance, safety and cleanliness of physical program space are maintained; monitoring incoming donations to the program and engaging with Joint Health and Safety committee to ensure standards are met.
  • Managing the administration and operation of Thrive program, including reviewing resumes and hiring recommendations for the program; being a member of the Thrive team, Shelter Program Services team, and the Agency Management Group
  • Monitoring organization structure and systems to ensure clear communication channels necessary for information sharing, decision making and conflict resolution.
  • Directly supervising and evaluating 1 supervisor and up to  20 staff. Participating in new Staff Orientation; preparing and posting staff schedules to ensure adequate program coverage during all shifts (day, evening, overnight). Supporting the case managers and housing workers that collaborate with this program.
  • Participating in the development, planning, implementation, and evaluation of service delivery offered in the program.
  • Monitoring the program census, significant incidents, and discharges; attending Case Review and team meetings as required.
  • Supports other program managers and supervisors by offering direct consultations, trainings, and coaching.
  • Responsible for managing service partnerships and various initiatives within the sector.
  • Ensure that all people & culture policies are adhered to consistently throughout all program areas of responsibility including consistent supervision process and performance management needs.
  • Provides leadership, sets expectations, collaborates, and promotes effective working relationships across program departments.
  • Supervises, appraises, and evaluates staff in the Thrive Program
  • Promotes a healthy team culture and supports continuous learning and professional development of the case management team members.
  • Responsible for hiring of program staff.

 Qualifications:

  • C.Y.W., or B.A., or B.S.W. or M.S.W. plus minimum 8 years related working experience, including 3 years at a supervisory/managerial level. You must have clinical training and experience in adolescent behaviour in a residential setting; knowledge of adolescent developmental theory; leadership, supervisory and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated experience supervising a team including youth workers and multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Training in and experience using, implementing, and training staff in trauma informed care, and harm reduction practices integrating an equity, diversity, and inclusion lens. Previous experiencing working with refugee youth is an asset.
  • Demonstrated experience with quality improvement projects and/or program evaluation is an asset.
  • Demonstrated leadership, initiative, critical thinking, and conflict resolution skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in human resource management.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills and computer literate.
  • Able to make decision on a timely basis.
  • Demonstrate experience of TSSA Toronto Shelter Support Administration.
