Manager of Wholesale Trading

The Manager of Wholesale Trading is accountable for the management and execution of our wholesale business with Canadian and international customers. Their primary responsibility will be to oversee all aspects of cannabis purchases and sales in the wholesale cannabis market, driving growth and profitability. They will work directly with senior leadership to develop the strategic priorities.

This is a hardworking, hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves environment emphasizing a team-oriented and collaborative style. It will be key for the candidate to embrace change and see past obstacles with a focus on solutions in the context of a company undergoing rapid growth and ongoing functional integration. 

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive strategies for purchasing and selling in the wholesale cannabis market, aligning with company objectives and with input from senior leaders.
  • Establish and maintain strong relationships with domestic and international wholesale partners.
  • Analyze market trends to identify opportunities for business expansion and product distribution.
  • Collaborate with the commercial and operations teams to ensure efficient inventory management.
  • Negotiate contracts and agreements with suppliers and customers to maximize profitability and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Prepare responses to requests for proposals (RFP) and requests for information (RFI).
  • Provide leadership and direction, fostering an environment of growth, performance, and operational excellence.
  • Maintain detailed customer records and provide status reports as needed.
  • Prepare weekly reports to provide updates on the status of sales, working with the finance team to analyze the costs and revenue.
  • Provide after-sales support services.
  • Assist the VP of Supply Chain with special requests and projects that may be outside of day-to-day responsibilities.

The Ideal Candidate has:

  • Proven experience in wholesale business management, preferably in the cannabis, perishable goods, or CPG industry.
  • Minimum of three years’ experience in management positions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, or related field, or equivalent training and experience.
  • Strong understanding of the regulatory landscape of the cannabis market in Canada and internationally is an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and execute business strategies.
  • Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Excel, ERP systems, data management and analysis.
  • Entrepreneurial drive with a strong work ethic and ability to manage multiple shifting priorities.
  • Must have access to reliable transportation to work full-time hours as scheduled (40 hours per week)
  • Must have the ability to provide a criminal record check that is clear of any charges that could be related or have a direct correlation to the position or company

Job Details
Reports to: Vice President, Supply Chain
Salary: Starts at $60,000 annually
Status: Full-time, permanent position
Schedule: regularly 8:00am - 4:30pm, Monday to Friday with flexibility to work evenings and/or weekends as required to accommodate international time zones

  • Must be comfortable sitting or standing at a desk and working at a computer for prolonged periods of time

Environmental Demands

  • Fast-paced office environment with quickly changing priorities
  • This position may involve exposure to cannabis/plant materials and is therefore not likely suitable for anyone that may suffer from allergies to cannabis, or for anyone that experiences medical issues as a result of exposure to cannabis materials
  • Strong scent of cannabis plants
