Blessey Marine Services, Inc. owns and operates one of the youngest multi-faceted inland tank barge and vessel fleets in the United States.   

We are in search of a Manager of Compliance & Vetting for our Harahan, LA office. 


JOB TITLE:                  Manager of Compliance & Vetting

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:

Manage the Ship Inspection Report Program (SIRE) planning/scheduling, tracking, and response activities of the BMS Fleet as per customer requirements.  Manage Customer Vetting requests and assist in customer vetting activities by performing the following duties:

 

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

·         Function as the primary point of contact for all SIRE scheduling.

·         Responsible for planning, scheduling and tracking of boat and barge SIRE inspections, including management of database for planning and scheduling purposes.

·         Communicate with boats and other departments regarding SIRE inspections including coordination with Marketing and Logistics departments to ensure boats and barges are in position for inspection.

·         Oversee communication with Marketing for customer identification/purchase order initiation, including approval and payment.

·         Management of daily SIRE tracking list, including vessel location, SIRE due date, customer, and assigned inspection company.  Also includes coordination with Operations for pre-SIRE walk-throughs and inspections.

·         Oversee the processing of SIRE Inspections, including entering inspections into TowWorks and submission of operator comments to OCIMF website as needed

·         Manage updating open items in TowWorks database. (i.e.: add information to the record or update after verification of completion)

·         Develop and print reports using TowWorks and Excel on a regular basis.

·         Utilize computer applications: Microsoft Word, Excel, TowWorks, and SAP.

·         Other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must be able to read, write, and speak English clearly.
  • High School diploma or GED required; College Degree strongly preferred.
  • Minimum five years’ experience in the marine transportation segment.
  • Proficiency in or knowledge of a variety of computer software applications, including but not limited to Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word.
  • High level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential situations and documentation.
  • Knowledge of office administration procedures.
  • Ability to operate most standard office equipment.
  • Attention to detail in composing, typing, and proofing materials, establishing priorities, and meeting deadlines.
  • Proficient spelling, grammar, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone and oral communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality. 

LANGUAGE SKILLS                                                     

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to present information effectively and to respond to questions from groups of managers, clients and customers 

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS                                             

Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. 

REASONING ABILITY                                                  

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS

This position requires driving a vehicle as necessary for errands and business-related meetings. Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.
