Summary of the Role and Responsibilities: We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Manager of Catering and Event Operations to join our team. As a Manager of Catering and Event Operations, you will work directly with the Director of Catering and will be responsible for overseeing and coordinating all aspects of catering events, ensuring seamless execution, and exceeding client expectations. You will work closely with clients, vendors, and internal teams to plan and execute events that leave a lasting impression. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, organized, and possesses excellent communication and leadership skills.


The Manager of Catering and Event Operations is a pivotal role that will be responsible for driving the quality, exceptional service, and profitability of Kent Island Resort’s premium catering business.  As a member of Kent's senior management team, the Manager of Catering and Event Operations will assist the Director of Catering and Events lead all aspects of catering and event operations, including but not limited to, designing and systematizing the set up and operations of all events on property, accurately budgeting, careful facilities management and maintenance, consistent inventory management, team member training, and  mentoring. In addition, the Manager of Catering and Event Operations will be relied upon to model our core value of servant leadership and to teach the VIVÂMEE Virtues of Joy, Humility, and Ministry. This role will have a prominent management role within Kent and will have opportunities to participate in training at other VIVÂMEE properties as required.

Responsibilities:

  • Client Interaction: Collaborate with clients to understand their event requirements, preferences, and expectations. Provide personalized and professional service to ensure client satisfaction. Maintain strong relationships with clients to encourage repeat business and referrals.

  • Event Planning: Develop comprehensive event plans, including timelines, floorplans, logistics, and staffing requirements. Coordinate with guests and their vendors to secure necessary services, such as catering, décor, entertainment, and transportation. Ensure all aspects of the event align with client specifications and company standards.

  • Logistics Management: Oversee the setup, execution, and breakdown of events, ensuring all elements run smoothly. Manage event staff, including servers, chefs, and other personnel, to ensure efficient operations. Address any issues or challenges that arise during events and implement solutions in real- time.

  • Budget Management: Work within established budget parameters to deliver high-quality events. Source cost-effective solutions without compromising on event quality. Track expenses and provide financial reports to clients as needed. Maintain budgeted 

  • Quality Control: Ensure all catering services meet or exceed food safety and quality standards. Conduct post-event evaluations to gather feedback and identify areas for improvement. Maximize guest experience through cleanliness, temperature and lighting control that is coordinated with the host.

  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and direction to event staff, fostering a positive and collaborative work environment. Work with the Catering Director to conduct ongoing training sessions to enhance the skills of event personnel.

Facilities Oversight:

  • Perform risk evaluations and implement management strategies

  • All steps of service, design, set up and breakdown must be documented on easy to use daily checklists and process forms. 

  • Inspect what we expect by conducting walk-throughs with Venue Coordinators, Catering Manager and facilities to monitor repairs and schedule general maintenance.

  • Follow up with Catering Manager and facilities to ensure timely repairs are made and maintenance is conducted prior to event days.

  • Ensure inventory is properly managed by Catering Manager, Venue Coordinators and BOH.

  • Maintain all certifications, safety procedures and security protocols for each venue space.

  • Identifies and evaluates storage areas and their maintenance.

Job Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Hospitality Management, Event Planning, or a related field (preferred not

required)

  • Previous experience in catering, event planning, or hospitality management is required

  • Relevant certifications (e.g Certified Meeting Professional, Certified Special Events Professional) are a plus.

  • Proven experience as a Catering Event Services Manager or in a similar role within the hospitality industry.

  • Strong organizational and multitasking abilities.

  • Excellent communication, interpersonal skills, and problem solving skills.

  • Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.

  • Knowledge of catering industry trends and best practices.

  • Familiarity with relevant software for event planning and management.

  • Strong food and beverage service skills with knowledge of bartending and beverage management.
