About Camp Kandalore
Camp Kandalore is a co-ed residential summer camp located in the Algonquin Highlands. Since 1947, Kandalore has delivered an outstanding camp experience for campers aged 6–16. Our tradition of paddling and canoe tripping complements a dynamic on-site program and a strong commitment to community, safety, and care of place.
Position Summary
The Maintenance Assistant plays a key role in keeping Camp Kandalore safe, functional, and welcoming year-round. Working as part of the site and facilities team, this hands-on role supports outdoor site care, building and equipment upkeep, and general operational needs. The position is varied: balancing scheduled preventive maintenance with the day-to-day priorities that arise in an active camp environment.
Key Responsibilities
Site and Outdoor Care-
Maintain all outdoor areas and shared spaces, including mowing, trimming, raking, gardening, trail and roadway upkeep, and seasonal landscaping.

Complete snow removal, sanding/salting, and winter access maintenance for paths, stairs, docks, and service areas.

Collect and transport garbage, recycling, and compost to designated disposal sites; keep waste areas clean and organized.

Monitor the site for hazards (fallen branches, slippery walkways, unstable structures) and address or report promptly.

Support upkeep of cabins, washroom buildings, program areas, waterfront infrastructure, staff housing, and common buildings.

Perform routine minor repairs across multiple trades (carpentry, painting, basic plumbing/electrical troubleshooting, hardware replacement).

Assist with preventive maintenance schedules for structures, outdoor equipment, and small machines/tools.

Identify emerging maintenance issues early and communicate clearly with the Site Manager and maintenance team.

Assist with camp set-up, turnover, and shutdown tasks before, during, and after the summer season.

Support deliveries and movement of supplies/equipment across site; prepare spaces for rentals or retreats as required.

Maintain clean and safe workshops, storage areas, and equipment sheds; ensure tools are stored properly and ready for use.

Provide occasional assistance with cleaning or restocking high-traffic areas (washrooms, showers, staff spaces) when required to support operations or during peak periods.
Qualifications and Requirements

Minimum 21 years of age with a valid Ontario Class G driver’s licence.

Physically capable of lifting 50 lbs repeatedly and working on your feet for extended periods.

Comfortable working outdoors year-round in all weather conditions.

Practical experience in maintenance, building operations, outdoor property care, or related hands-on work (camp, school, resort, facilities, trades helper, etc.).

Ability to work independently, manage time effectively, and shift priorities with changing operational needs.

Strong teamwork mindset and a service-oriented approach in a community setting.
Working Conditions

Mix of indoor/outdoor work with frequent physical activity including lifting, bending, climbing stairs/ladders, and operating tools/equipment.

Schedule varies seasonally; some early mornings, evenings, or weekend work may be required during summer operations or special events.

Role requires safe operation of equipment and adherence to camp health and safety procedures.
Compensation and Benefits
A full-time permanent salary commensurate with experience, plus a benefits package is availble.
Room and Board is not included.
