Avena Foods is actively seeking a Maintenance Technician to join our team. Reporting to the Maintenance Manager, this position is responsible for installing, troubleshooting, repairing and maintaining all equipment in accordance with safety, preventive, predictive and productive maintenance systems.
Key Responsibilities
1. Maintain production line equipment & tools to ensure safety & minimize downtime.
2. Perform preventative maintenance, servicing, troubleshooting and repair on all processing equipment, including bucket elevators, conveyors, blowers, milling machines and packing equipment to ensure reliability and safety.
3. Focus on safe working practices and quality workmanship.
4. Complete assigned work orders on a timely fashion. Update Hippo on status and completion of work orders.
5. Ensure good housekeeping within entire building.
6. Read and interpret equipment manuals and work orders to perform required maintenance and service.
Preferred Qualifications (Education, Experience and Skills)
· High school diploma, GED or equivalent.
· Completion of college/CEGEP/vocational or technical training preferred.
· Valid Driver’s License.
· Minimum 3–5 years of experience in a similar role.
· Experience in preventative maintenance; electrical, mechanical and pneumatic trouble shooting.
· Food Grade Manufacturing experience or Industrial Agricultural maintenance.
· Strong attention to detail.
· Ability to work independently in a busy environment.
· Ability to react to urgent production maintenance issues.
· Highly flexible, with solid interpersonal skills that allow one to work effectively in a diverse working environment.
· Comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Standards and Practices.
· Able to operate a forklift and aerial lifts.
· Must follow all work instructions, Good Manufacturing Practices, Food Safety Procedures, Illness and Disease Policy and all other company policies and procedures.
Work Conditions
· Physical ability to lift to 20 Kg.
· Personal Protective Equipment is mandatory e.g. steel-toed safety boots, safety glasses/goggles, etc.
· Ability to respond to an after-hour emergency call if needed.
· Register for Industrial Mechanic (Millwright) apprenticeship.
· Flexibility to work overtime as required.
· Hazards associated with trade.
· Exposed to various temperatures and conditions, work both indoors and outdoors.
*This is a shift position which may include evenings and weekends. You may be required to work in ambient temperatures. This position will require manual effort such as climbing ladders/stairs lifting materials, etc.
