Maintenance Technician - Full Time (Critical Access Hospital)

SUMMARY: Functions as a Maintenance Technician (MT) in a team and mission-based setting to provider overall routine maintenance, repair and security of buildings, equipment, grounds and parking areas. Working knowledge of cleaning and sanitation requirements as well as safe use of chemicals and personal protective equipment. MT supports and maintains a culture of safety, quality and positive patient experience. Participates in performance improvement and continuous quality improvement activities. This position may be asked to work at other NCCH-designated work location or sites as needed. Training is available and will be provided to the successful candidate.

This position is an essential worker which requires a commitment to teamwork, collaboration and department scheduling needs i.e. good attendance, attitude, customer services, communication skills, etc., 

Special Conditions: Subject to rotation for on call and call back after hours, week nights, and weekends and during emergency conditions. Must be willing to work assigned Monday - Friday Shifts, Weekend and Holidays - Generally the Maintenance hours for coverage are Monday - Friday 6 a.m. - 6 p.m. [as needed or assigned].

Supervision Received: Works under the direct supervision of the Director of Operations or designated Supervisor or Administrator.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Performs general maintenance duties: maintains and repairs electrical, plumbing, heating, cooling, ventilation and lighting systems; landscaping/grounds, campus security, and emergency preparedness; receives written work orders or verbal instructions from supervisor; and repairs damage or makes changes to walls, cabinets, shelves, doors, floors, etc.

Secondary Functions:

Performs preventive maintenance checks on various equipment such as plumbing, kitchen equipment, oxygen storage and vacuum systems, fire extinguishers, etc.

Document maintenance activities to update maintenance logs and also document various equipment safety checks as required by state and federal laws.

Assists with housekeeping and janitorial duties in Environmental Services as needed or assigned.


EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

REQUIRED: High school diploma or equivalent and/or a combination of education.

PREFERRED: 1 year experience working in a hospital or healthcare setting; construction or building maintenance, highly desirable.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Clean Driver's License [Motor Vehicle Department Report will be verified]

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of state and federal regulatory requirements.

Knowledge of methods, practices, tools and materials used in building maintenance and repair, and occupational hazards and necessary safety precautions applicable to building maintenance work.

Skills in the use and care of hand tools and power equipment necessary to perform various building maintenance and repair tasks. 

Establish and maintain solid working relationships through communication, cooperation, and positive interactions with all patients/clients, employees, staff, providers, and vendors.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule when circumstances necessitate.

Demonstrated ability to self-motivate and work independently with limited supervision.

Strong customer service skills along with excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Positive communication skills, ability to successfully interact with all customers; continuous demonstration of courteous, cooperative and service orientated behavior.

Supports and maintains a culture of safety, quality and positive patient experience.

Basic computer skills, and ability to use office equipment.

Willingness to work a flexible schedule when circumstances necessitate.
