Mobile Heavy Equipment Maintenance Specialist
We are seeking a skilled and mobile Maintenance Manager to lead and coordinate maintenance operations across multiple metal recycling yards in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. This role requires approximately 80% travel and is critical to ensuring equipment reliability, minimizing downtime, and enforcing preventive maintenance programs. The successful candidate will have a strong background in mechanical systems, heavy industrial equipment, and vendor management. Does not include the maintenance of vehicles/trucks and trailers
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Planning & Execution:
- Lead the planning and execution of preventive and corrective maintenance across all regional yards for fixed and mobile equipment.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and recommend or implement repairs.
- Oversee contractors and maintenance personnel to ensure quality workmanship and compliance with safety standards.
- Maintain accurate service records and maintenance logs for all equipment.
Travel & Multi-Yard Coordination:
- Regularly travel (approximately 80%) to yard locations in NS, NB, and PEI.
- Coordinate site visits based on priority needs, breakdowns, and scheduled maintenance.
- Act as the main liaison between yard managers and head office for maintenance-related issues.
Health, Safety & Compliance:
- Ensure all maintenance work is completed in accordance with company safety policies and provincial regulations.
- Conduct safety inspections and audits related to equipment and maintenance practices.
- Support training for local yard staff on proper use and care of machinery.
Budgeting & Vendor Management:
- Source and manage external vendors, parts suppliers, and service providers.
- Support annual maintenance budgeting and monitor spending against forecasts.
- Evaluate vendor performance and cost-effectiveness.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of maintenance experience in a heavy industrial, recycling, or manufacturing environment.
- Strong knowledge of mobile and stationary equipment including shears, balers, loaders, and conveyors.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage priorities across multiple locations.
- Excellent problem-solving, time management, and communication skills.
- Experience supervising tradespeople and external contractors.
- Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel frequently within Atlantic Canada.
- Technical diploma or certification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial maintenance is preferred.
- Experience using MaintainX an asset.
