Lending Manager
SUMMARY
The Lending Manager is responsible for supervising the Consumer Lending and Mortgage departments at the main branch. Responsible for creating a positive working environment for employee empowerment through coaching and support. Works closely with the VP of Lending to ensure service and sales objectives are met. The Lending Manager is a member of the credit committee and reviews loans daily.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Plans, organizes, manages, and directs the work of the consumer lending and mortgage departments.
- Serves as a member of the leadership team contributing to the development of plans, policies, procedures, and goals of the lending department.
- Provides leadership and supervision to the lending team by empowering staff to make decisions, coaching for growth, and promoting continuous improvement. Serves as the primary point of contact for staff inquiries and member complaints, helping to resolve issues early and minimize escalations to the VP of Lending, while supporting efficient team communication and operations.
- Completes regular coaching meetings and performance reviews in a timely manner. Recommends promotions or additional training. Provides regular feedback and recognition of staff members. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed.
- Promotes an empowerment culture. Holds staff meetings on a regular basis to communicate department and/or credit union vision, strategies, and changes.
- Assists with orientation of new employees and staff training sessions in conjunction with the HR department. Ensures personnel are well trained in all phases of their respective jobs. Performs cross training as necessary.
- Assists with determining appropriate staffing levels and scheduling employees.
- Stays up to date on lending compliance, policy, and procedures.
- Underwrites consumer, mortgage, and business loans.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education & experience:
- Three or more years of experience in lending at a financial organization required.
- Previous supervisory experience strongly preferred.
- Education equivalent to a two-year college degree or completion of specialized coursework of study in business or finance preferred.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Strong leadership and relationship development skills.
- Proven ability to effectively train and supervise the work of others.
- Through understanding of the foundation of determining credit worthiness.
- Must be able to express written and oral information clearly, concisely and completely to all levels of the organization with proper spelling, composition and grammar.
- Accurate, detailed and a self-starter who can exercise independent judgement.
- Possesses good time management and organizational skills, and the flexibility and determination to meet deadlines, goals and a wide variety of duties each day.
- Ability to maintain a professional image at all times in appearance, attitude, communication and workspace.
- Positive attitude.
PHYSICAL AND MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to sit and use hands to finger, handle, or feel to perform their duties. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk around the branch to perform their duties. The employee is occasionally required to stoop, kneel or crouch. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
- The employee for this position may operate any or all of the following: telephone, cellular telephone, copy and fax machine, calculator, imaging equipment, postage meter, computer terminal, personal computer and printers.
- This position may require travel by automobile between branches on occasion.
- This position requires the employee to make decisions in a timely manner and anticipate all of the potential ramifications of decisions made.
- The employee must be ability to read, and interpret documents, understand/follow complex written and oral instructions, be able to express oneself clearly/concisely, perform mathematical functions and handle multiple, concurrent tasks.
- Must show initiative, tact and maturity, have an aptitude for research, exhibit good communication and presentation skills.
- This position requires regular and predictable attendance.
