About Canucks Autism Network (CAN)
Canucks Autism Network (CAN) is a charitable organization dedicated to providing programs for individuals on the autism spectrum and their families, while promoting acceptance and inclusion through community engagement and training initiatives across BC. Our vision is for every individual on the autism spectrum to be understood, accepted, and supported in all community spaces.
We engage a workforce of over 200 volunteers and 450 frontline staff to deliver programs for children, youth, and adults on the spectrum in communities across British Columbia. Since its inception in 2008, CAN has directly impacted over 8,000 members on the autism spectrum.
About the Position
The Learning Facilitator is responsible for delivering autism training workshops on behalf of Canucks Autism Network (CAN) to increase acceptance and community capacity to support Autistic individuals across British Columbia. Reporting to the Training and Accessibility Coordinator, the Learning Facilitator independently delivers training material to both internal groups, such as CAN volunteers and staff members, and external groups, such as sport and recreation providers, schools, first responders, businesses, and community groups.

Key Functions (Main aspects of the position)
Deliver live training workshops on behalf of CAN
- Deliver content as written by CAN, including messaging contained in speaker notes
- Uphold the mission, vision and values of the organization
- Respond to audience questions in accordance with CAN messaging and philosophy
- Demonstrate and foster awareness and acceptance of autism and neurodiversity
- Model a positive, supportive attitude for attendees, while strongly encouraging inclusion in community spaces and facilitating conversation about practical solutions
- Pick up appropriate training-related materials from the CAN Office when necessary
- Review and rehearse training presentation prior to delivering training workshop, including logistics and communications from the Training and Accessibility Coordinator
- Submit self-evaluations and training workshop feedback in a timely manner
General
- Maintain a high degree of professionalism in interactions with audience members and host organizations at all times
- Attend periodic meetings and trainings with the Training Team
- Receive and implement feedback from Training Team
Requirements
Education and Experience
- Post-Secondary education in a related field such as sport and recreation, kinesiology, special education, psychology, etc. or similar equivalent
- Minimum of one year experience in CAN programming required (equivalent experience may be considered)
- Previous public speaking experience is an asset
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Passionate about Canucks Autism Network and its values and vision
- Ability to project enthusiasm and energy
- Confident speaking and answering questions in front of a variety of groups
- Strong communication skills and ability to connect and build rapport with a number of different target audiences (i.e. community recreation staff, sport coaches, teachers, first responders, businesses)
- Strong teaching skills. Ability to model skills and provide feedback.
- High degree of professionalism
- Strong knowledge of behaviour support strategies
- Ability to receive and implement performance feedback
- Willingness to travel around the Lower Mainland and Fraser Valley
- Daytime availability is an asset. Evening and weekend availability will be considered.
