Job Outline
Camp Kandalore is looking for a creative, organized and enthusiastic individual to join our Summer 2025 Senior Staff team as the seasonal Program Director. This is an exciting role oversees the day-to-day programming of approximately 300 campers and 70 staff, across 30+ activities, amongst eight program areas with corresponding Program Managers.
The successful applicant will work to develop the skills of Leaders aged 16-17 with the goal of joining our future staff team. These individuals will be directly responsible for the safety, enjoyment and learning of all leaders through workshops, activities, and canoe trips. They will be positive, camper-centric, adaptable, team-oriented and able to thrive in a busy camp atmosphere.
Our Leadership Directors will be responsible for our first- or second-year leaders – Pathfinder (1 role), Leader in Training (2 roles), Explorer 2 (1 role). It is a rich learning experience that integrates leaders into the in-camp program and a five-day canoe trip, focusing on developing skills in leadership, counselling, activity instruction, teamwork and communication required for leaders of today! The Leadership Directors work together to facilitate these programs.
This position includes room and board, and a fantastic summer at camp. As a condition of employment, a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Minimum 3 years of experience as summer camp staff
· Standard First Aid and CPR-C
· Bronze Cross certification or higher
· Experience working with children
· Experience in a camp leadership role preferred
· Pleasure Craft Operator Card and experience driving boats preferred
· Other activity-based certifications such as CUI, WSWO, ORCKA are an asset, instructor-level certifications preferred
Responsibilities Include:
· Oversee and support the overall health, safety and well-being of the Leaders
· Support Directors and Senior Staff with operation of camp
· Assign appropriate activities, trip groups, swim classes, canoeing lessons and sections for each Leader
· Participate in 5-day canoe trip with Leadership Groups
· Professional communication with parents
· Support the planning and implementation of special events
· Instruction of core leadership principals
· Participate with Leaders at their activities and in their sections on a daily basis
· Provide ongoing evaluations and feedback
· Provide formal written evaluation to LITs at the end of each month with a clear indication of how the LIT performed
· Integrate the Leadership program into overall camp life as much as possible
· Facilitate the Recreation and Healthy Active Living Leadership, Grace 11 (PAD3O) and/orGrade 12 (PLF4M) course credit, including covering materials in the curriculum, providing rubrics, evaluations, and culminating projects and report cards
· Provide recommendations with regards to who should return and provide recommendations to the Director at the end of the summer
· Foster a positive camp environment, participating in camp-wide events and contributing to overall camp success.
