JOB SUMMARY

As part of Building Future’s social enterprise, the Siloam Laundry Services (SLS) Laundry Lead combines hands-on laundry operations with team lead responsibilities. The Laundry Lead is responsible for participating in all aspects of commercial laundry service—including washing, folding, drying, and laundry delivery—to meet customer standards, while also supporting team members. This role helps ensure operational excellence, health and safety compliance, while providing meaningful employment and growth for participants.

This position contributes to Siloam Mission’s vision of a Winnipeg without chronic homelessness and to offer a high standard of safe, affordable housing in reaching that vision.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead the on-site laundry team in daily washing, folding, weighing and delivering responsibilities;
  • Coach, and mentor the laundry team to ensure productivity, quality, and safety;
  • Delegate tasks to ensure timely and efficient completion of responsibilities;
  • Train and orientate new participants on tasks and ensure quality control;
  • Escalate issues or performance concerns to the Social Enterprise Coordinator;
  • Operate laundry machinery safely and efficiently; monitor chemical levels, clean lint filters, and perform routine machine maintenance;
  • Check and report equipment issues, maintenance needs including chemical levels, or safety hazards promptly to the Facilities team.
  • Maintain cleanliness, order, and hygiene in the laundry facility in compliance with infection control procedures;
  • Monitor and enforce correct infection-control and safety practices (PPE, chemical handling, WHMIS, etc.);
  • Encourage participants of SLS in their journey to find meaningful employment.
  • Complete daily logs, incident reports, delivery documentation, and other required records;
  • Maintain accurate records of necessary laundry data;
  • Represent SLS professionally while engaging with customers/prospective customers;
  • Deliver and collect laundry to/from clients using the Siloam Mission vehicle; 
  • Track and manage inventory of supplies; report supply needs to Building Futures Co-Ordinator;
  • Other related duties as required/assigned.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Experience working in a laundry environment an asset;
  • Experience leading or supervising a team;
  • Lived experience an asset;
  • WHMIS Certification;
  • Must have a valid Class 5 driver's license.

  • Knowledge on Safety and Cleanliness Standards set by City of Winnipeg.

WORKING CONDITION 

  • Hours of work: Tuesday - Saturday, 7:00 am - 3:30 pm; overtime may be offered based on organizational needs;
  • Must be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs., continuous walking, standing, repetitive bending, turning, twisting, stretching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and moving heavy items;
  • Hazardous conditions could include potential violent outbursts from community members toward staff or other community members;
  • Clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.

WORKPLACE HEALTH AND SAFETY

  • The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.
  • Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health, Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
  • Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs, including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
  • Supports an environment that avoids, prevents, and corrects all activities or actions that may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.
