The Harborside Inn is now hiring laundry attendants for its 2024 season!

 

These positions are located on Martha's Vineyard.  Shared dormitory-style housing is available.

Anticipated Dates:

Our full season is from April 1, 2024, through November 15, 2024. All positions, including seasonal roles, remain employment-at-will. Preference may be given to those available full season. However, those unable to work a full season are not necessarily automatically disqualified. Start and end dates may be flexible.


Anticipated Dates:

The anticipated compensation for this position is $18.75 per hour.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The Laundry Attendants play a key role in our mission to deliver world class service and products and a memorable vacation experience to everyone that passes through our doors. They ensure every single guest and owner has an enjoyable experience at the Inn. This includes washing, drying, and ironing clothing/linen, stocking supplies, and maintaining the cleanliness of the work area.  The position involves:


Operationally Related:

  • Loading articles of clothing/linen into the washing machine along with the appropriate amount of cleaning chemicals and programs the machine for the appropriate timing.

  • Loading articles of clothing/linen into dryers for the appropriate timing.

  • Folding articles of clothing/linen in a professional manner.

  • Utilizing laundry related equipment: washers, dryers, irons, ironing boards, etc.

  • Ensuring the laundry area is appropriately stocked with laundry supplies.

  • Maintaining cleanliness and organization of the housekeeping department work areas.

  • Using the appropriate cleaning chemicals and familiarizing yourself with the information about them in MSDS.

  • Reporting maintenance related concerns and needs to the Housekeeping Manager/Supervisor in a timely manner.

  • Properly maintaining housekeeping equipment.

  • May perform regular deep cleaning of all areas of property as needed.

  • Self-inspecting one's own performance and making corrections as needed.

  • Assisting in other areas of housekeeping and within other departments as needed.

  • Utilizing appropriate PPE as required

Guest Service Related:

  • Initiating conversations with guests and owners, thanking them, anticipating their needs, seeking their feedback, and taking appropriate action. Consistently practicing the “10 and 5 rule,†referring to the guest by name, making appropriate eye contact, and displaying positive/welcoming body language when doing so.

  • Approaching all interactions with guests, vendors, and team members in an attentive, friendly, courteous, professional, business-like, service-oriented manner.

  • Obtaining the necessary knowledge to provide information and recommendations to guests and owners via phone, email, and in person regarding the property, rooms, rates, amenities, the local area, events, activities, dining options, and directions.

  • Greeting guests and owners and providing a first point of contact to the property in a manner that creates an excellent first impression.

  • Resolving the concerns of both guests and owners according to organizational guidelines in a manner that is both effective and tactful being sure to utilize the assistance of management as needed.

  • Remaining available to guests and owners at all times while on the clock.

  • Working effectively with other departments and team members and establishing good working relationships with them to best meet the needs of guests and best facilitate a positive working environment.

  • Taking initiative in finding tasks to work on during slower times and seeking ways to enhance the guest and owner experience better.

It Also Involves:

  • Arriving to work as scheduled and following the property's attendance guidelines.

  • Attending meetings and training as requested.

  • Practicing all safety guidelines of the organization and reporting safety concerns to management.

  • Adhering to organizational guidelines/policies/expectations as well as federal, state, and local laws, including the property's confidentiality expectations.

Qualifications:

 

All of our team members are passionate about guest service and helping others. They initiate conversations, anticipate the needs of others, and interact with others in a courteous and efficient manner. They love being a team player and are detail-oriented as well as flexible/adaptable. They are able to work a flexible work week including nights, weekends, and holidays. They understand maintaining confidentiality is important. This position primarily involves working indoors but could be outdoors at times when assisting in other areas of housekeeping. Previous cleaning experience helpful but not required. Position involves lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds and push/pull 20 to 50 pounds.
