Laborers for Erosion Control Division
GENERAL PURPOSE:
Performs a variety of manual labor tasks that are assigned. Laborers work primarily outdoors and occasionally have to work in adverse weather conditions. Assist with snow removal in the winter months.
HOURS: Available to work between hours of 6 am and 6 pm, Monday through Friday; with additional mandatory overtime and weekend hours.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Install a variety of erosion control products including; silt fence, erosion logs, soil retention blanket, etc
· Install plants in native areas and formal landscaping
· Clearing sediment.
· Operate hand and power tools of all kinds, including but not limited to: shovels, earth tampers, lawn mowers and string trimmers, cement mixers and a variety of other equipment and instruments
· Load and unload materials, clean and prepare sites, dig trenches, set braces to support the side of excavations, erect scaffolding, clean up rubble and debris, deploy liner systems, install storm water BMPs such as silt fence and wattle
· May signal operator to facilitate alignment, movement, and adjustment of machinery, equipment and materials
· May assist other crew members
· May lubricate, clean and repair machinery, equipment and tools
· Loading / unloading materials
· Cleaning shop, yard and vehicles
· Must work when schedules, be on time and ready to work with proper PPE
· Willing and able to follow directions and take instruction from Foreman; reports to Foreman about daily work
· Works independently and completes daily activities according to instruction and work schedule.
· Completes any other duties assigned by Foreman
· Follows all policies of CDI and clients of CDI
QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE/EDUCATION
- Knowledge - Basic knoweldge in the erosion control industry
- Skills - ablity to use a variety of hand tools (i.e shovels, rakes, picks, sledgehammers, staple guns, etc)
- Abilities - Adapts to changes in the work environment
- Education - None required
- Experience - Silt fence installations, BMP's, soil retention blankets
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
· Outside various ground surfaces
· Various weather conditions: heat, cold, rain or snow
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
· Physical strength; hand eye coordination and endurance
· Lift up to 80 lbs; transfer vertically items weighing up to 100 lbs
· Ability to left, pull, push up to 100 lbs
· Bend and squat
· Climb stairs and ladders; tolerate heights up to 20 ft
· Ability to utilize site sanitary facilities (porta-john)
· Pass pre-hire physical
· Pass pre-hire, post-incident and random drug testing
· Must be able to work at any time of the day or night during the snow removal season
· Ability to tolerate various weather conditions.
· Have your own transportation to job-sites located throughout extended metro area
