Laboratory Technician
The Laboratory Technician assists the Laboratory Scientist in a multitude of tasks. The primary role is to assist in ensuring smooth laboratory processes and serve as support to the scientist. The following tasks are required on a day to day basis.
· Perform start up on all instruments.
· Perform maintenance on all the instruments.
· Perform pre-analytic and analytic phase of testing patient test.
· Perform bench top disinfection at the end of each shift and ensure lab is clean, trash is out and ready for next shift.
· Assist with other lab personnel and keep lab supervisor or shift lead informed on all activities and issues.
· Assist with supply/equipment inventory ordering and organization.
· Retrieve of sample pending, re-run status.
· Perform all tasks assigned.
· Maintain all cooperative working relationships with other departments and co-workers.
· Support laboratory staff by maintaining logs and record books, troubleshooting and resolving problems, assist with special projects.
· Keep equipment operating by following operating instructions, troubleshooting breakdowns, maintaining supplies, performing preventative maintenance and calling for repairs.
· Document information by maintaining daily logs and equipment record books.
· Update job knowledge by participating in education opportunities and reading technical publications.
· Enhance laboratory and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests and exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
· Adhere to strict attendance guidelines with flexible work schedule.
· Comply with all HIPPA guidelines.
· Adhere to all Company health and safety standards.
· Other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
· Computer proficient, especially with Microsoft Office products.
· Effective written and verbal communication abilities.
· Accurate and diligent with a high attention to detail.
· Awareness of scientific principles and practice.
· Ability to read, comprehend, and speak English.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· Previous laboratory experience.
· Proficient in LIS.
EDUCATION:
High School Diploma.
Two Year Accredited MLT Program
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
· Must be able to pass standardized color vision test.
· Ability to lift up to 30lbs.
· Strong eye hand coordination in order to accurately identify specimens by touch and sight.
· Ability to wear laboratory personal protective equipment (PPE) 3-6 hours out of the day.
