Terracon Geotechnique Ltd. – an employee-owned, Alberta-based company, is looking for a Laboratory Technologist in Fort McMurray, Alberta.

This role will be responsible for laboratory testing, data entry, coordination, lab calibrations, and quality control. The work will be conducted primarily in the laboratory but may also include field testing as required.

What You’ll Be Doing

·       Conduct Geotechnical laboratory testing on soils and aggregate like proctors, sieves, hydrometer, specific gravity, and Atterberg limits as well as compressive strength testing concrete materials meeting the respective ASTM and CSA standards.

·       Enter laboratory sample tags and print the working sheets from our LIMS system.

·       Input third-party laboratory results.

·       Submit results of soil & concrete tests and deliver them to the Quality Assurance Specialist

·       Calibrate lab equipment (proctor machine, sieves, ovens, scales, and molds) and complete preventative maintenance of lab equipment when required.

·       Work in a fast-paced environment and carry out assignments with minimal supervision.

·       Physical demands include but not limited to prolonged standing, repetitive movement, and lifting to 50 LBS.

What We’re Looking For

·       Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology, Environmental, or Geotechnical Sciences, or an equivalent combination of education and laboratory experience. Students will also be considered.

·       Candidates with labor experience will be considered, along with those demonstrating a strong work ethic

·       Valid CCIL/CSA concrete testing certification considered an asset.

·       Knowledge of SpectraQest considered an asset.

·       Proficient in use of Microsoft Excel

·       High attention to detail and the ability to multi-task

·       Time management skills, organizational skills, independent thinking skills, problem solving and analytical skills

·       Eager and willing to learn the laboratory role.

·       Strong workplace health and safety practices

Working Conditions, Schedule, and Physical Requirements

·       Legally authorized to work in Canada on an ongoing basis.

·       Must have a valid driver’s license.

·       Working outdoors in all types of weather

·       Successfully perform a Fit for Work test

·       Complete a drug & alcohol test.

·       Schedule will be Thursday to Monday during busy season; at times may require working overtime.
