Plumbing responsibilities include using plumbing tools to install and service plumbing systems, observing company safety guidelines, documenting each project, and updating client records, providing material cost and time estimates, and training apprentices. You should also be able to easily diagnose plumbing problems and provide excellent customer service.

To be successful you should be able to read blueprints, use diagnostic tools, and make decisions under pressure. Outstanding plumbers have sound knowledge of their craft and the ability to transfer this knowledge and skill to apprentices.

(Multi-family, New Construction, Commercial Projects)

Journeyman Plumber Primary Responsibilities: 

  • Installing, repairing, and servicing plumbing systems. 
  • Sourcing or fabricating replacement plumbing components. 
  • Interpreting blueprints and drawing rough sketches when required. 
  • Guiding and overseeing other apprentices or journeyman plumbers. 
  • Drawing up preventative maintenance measures and explaining these to clients and other plumbers. 
  • Obtaining required permits, equipment, tools, and materials for projects. 
  • Testing and troubleshooting systems. 
  • Providing assistance during emergencies. 
  • Updating project records and preparing relevant documents and reports for clients. 
  • Liaising with clients, vendors, and other plumbers. 
  • Evaluating scope of work components 
  • Leading through the planning, execution, and closing phases of new projects in consideration of all things plumbing related.

Journeyman Plumber Requirements:

  • A valid driver's license. 
  • Superb customer service skills. 
  • Excellent written, verbal, and telephonic communication. 
  • Experience with power tools and other equipment used in construction. 
  • Firm grasp of health and safety codes. 
  • Active Journeyman License 
  • Ability to train, manage, and guide future NHI Commercial plumbers through the apprentice process.

Most of the projects that are performed by NHI Commercial are directly related to multi-family housing. This means that in many cases, projects are performed within occupied units and communities, and it is the expectation of NHI commercial that all employees act with a high level of professionalism. In many cases, you will be expected to swap out tub/surrounds, toilets, and other plumbing fixtures on a regular basis.

Pay range: $35-$50 per hour based on experience. (Most jobs are prevailing wage - potential for up to $65/hour)
