IT Support Engineer
Blessey Marine Services, Inc. owns and operates one of the youngest multi-faceted inland tank barge and vessel fleets in the United States.
We are in search of a IT Support Engineer for our Harahan, LA location.
SUMMARY DESCRIPTION:
Handles day-to-day IT support and problem solving primarily on Blessey Marine’s fleet of motor vessels and also on in-house users’ computers, voice & data systems and marine electronics by performing the following duties:
SUPERVISION:
Reports to: IT Assistant Manager
Supervises: This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
· Provide world class customer service for our shore and vessel staff at BMS.
· Provide remote and hands-on technical support at offices and onboard vessels.
· Diagnose computer and device problems to determine root cause of malfunction.
· Document all support tasks performed in ConnectWise and internal tools.
· Perform Life Cycle management of technology equipment in offices and onboard vessels.
· Perform general computer/printer/scanners/multifunction device maintenance and repairs.
· Maintain navigational equipment (AIS, GPS Compass) and Rose Point on vessels.
· Assist in providing network installation, maintenance, and administration.
· Provide cellphone and cellular network device hardware and configuration support.
· Install, test, and configure operating systems and authorized software as required.
· Follow company policy in copying software and documentation.
· Assist all other IT teams in performing routine administrative duties as requested.
· Receive, test, inventory and configure technology hardware for shore and vessels.
· Perform preventive maintenance and cleaning of shore and vessel equipment as directed.
· Liaise with vendors to manage equipment RMA/Warranties as needed.
· Assist in setting up training and special demonstrations.
· Work scheduled “On-Call” afterhours rotation as assigned to support 24/7/365-day operations.
· Be available to potentially travel up to 20% of your scheduled work time.
· Support and/or perform other IT related duties and/or project tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be able to read, write and speak clearly in the English language.
- Transportation Workers Identification Card (TWIC) is required.
- High school diploma.
- Certification in at least one of the following areas: NMEA (MEI/CMET), CompTIA A+, CompTIA Network+ or Microsoft.
- 3-5 years of working experience within PC support.
- Proficient in the use of a basic multi-meter, wire tracing tools and Ethernet testing tools.
- Proficient in the troubleshooting and repair of various wiring technologies including coaxial, CATx (Ethernet), telephone, antenna, basic power distribution, NMEA/Serial communications, and soldering and terminating associated connectors.
- Detailed knowledge of Microsoft workstation operating systems.
- Ability to solve problems and make informed decisions daily.
- Well organized and detail driven with strong interpersonal skills and initiative.
- Reliable and responsible, able to respond quickly to support calls during the work week, nights and weekends.
- Must be able to coordinate logistical movements involving many motor vessels to maximize use of time and minimize user down time.
- Ability to work in a team environment and the ability to teach others.
- Aptitude and desire to obtain new knowledge.
- Must be able to work independently and with little supervision.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
This position requires driving a vehicle as necessary to travel to vessels, running errands and to business related meetings. Extended out-of-town trips will be required on a regular basis. Employee and/or applicant must successfully complete a Motor Vehicle History check and possess and maintain a current valid driver's license in their state of residence.
