INTERN - PEER RECOVERY SUPPORTER (PAID)

Reports To: Team Mentor - Community 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 

Work Schedule: Variable 

Salary: Hourly 

Position Summary: 

At Thrive Behavioral Health Center, we deliver industry leading peer support for those suffering from Mental Health and/or Substance Use Disorders. We are proud to set the industry standard and continue our growth. The Peer Recovery Support Intern is responsible for completing 16 hours of eBased courses, 40 hour certification training through OHMHAS, and participating in an 11 week paid internship including shadowing and additional training. 


What is a Peer Recovery Supporter?

A Certified Peer Recovery Supporter is a trained individual who has lived experience with addiction to alcohol and/or drugs who provides one-to-one strengths-based support to peers in recovery, empowering them to make healthier choices on a day to day basis. Thrive connects Certified Peer Recovery Supporters with individuals receiving other forms of behavioral health care and links them with recovery support services. The Certified Peer Recovery Supporter will be an accountability partner to promote recovery by engaging in a personal and positive, supportive relationship, demonstrating and inspiring hope, trust, and a positive outlook and optimize client connection with a broad range of community-based services and natural supports. 


What will I learn during my 11 week paid internship ?

  • Complete Eleven e-Based Academy courses (16 hours)

  • Complete Peer Recovery Support training (40 hours)

  • Sit for Peer Recovery Support certification exam

  • Meet with peer mentor regularly 

  • How to help peers understand recovery, as well as identify and achieve their own recovery needs, wants, and goals   

â—   Where to obtain information and opportunities for individuals to direct their own recovery and advocacy processes            

â—  How to assist peers in finding resources for harm reduction, detoxification treatment, family support, and support groups             

â— Teach and support acquisition and utilization of skills needed to sustain recovery from substance use                                   

â— Responsibilities around maintaining accurate records and notes, confidentiality, and compiling timely reports and the importance of these tasks while providing peer support                                                                         

â— How to provide recovery resources to individuals and their family members 

â— How to appropriately advocate for the needs of each individual 

â— Other developmental opportunities may be presented ad-hoc as they arise

Requirements: 

â— Identify as a person in recovery with at least one year of successful recovery 

â— Willingness to learn different pathways to recovery and social systems including evidence based practices                                          

â— Ability to be an active listener by asking questions and reflecting on what is being said

â— Proficient level of ability with computer; Microsoft Office Products 

â— Effective written and oral communication skills; ability to articulate information clearly 

â— Valid driver’s license and vehicle insurance 

Education: High School Diploma or GED equivalent

The position requires sitting and standing throughout the day, manual dexterity to type on a computer keyboard and operate general office equipment.
