The Industrial Materials Manufacturing Engineer will have expertise in battery anode component production and serve as the lead technical authority supporting PTX’s industrial materials manufacturing initiatives, encompassing both facility planning, startup and production process optimization. This position merges high-level manufacturing project management with subject matter expertise in anode material synthesis from carbonaceous materials. The Engineer will work closely with PTX leadership, subcontractors, and Government stakeholders to ensure the successful transition from pilot to commercial-scale operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide technical leadership and strategic oversight for the design, construction, and commissioning of anode or carbonaceous material processing and production facilities, including particle sizing, purification, shaping, and high-temperature processing equipment and site integration.
- Guide the scale-up of PTX’s proprietary manufacturing processes, ensuring process fidelity from lab to pilot and ultimately to commercial production.
- Interface with EPC contractors and internal stakeholders to validate engineering designs, procurement plans, and construction methodologies, ensuring alignment with PTX’s performance specifications and regulatory requirements.
- Monitor commissioning activities at PTX’s pilot facility, ensuring operational readiness and alignment with commercial-scale production plans.
- Lead technical reviews of all process steps in concert with EPC and vendors to ensure lean manufacturing and process optimization.
- Advise on compliance with ISO 9001 and DoD-specific quality requirements (e.g., XRD, resistivity, CTE).
- Support QA/QC functions and product qualification efforts
- Represent PTX in technical discussions with government customers, prime contractors, and research partners to drive adoption and integration of PTX materials in defense and energy applications.
- Inform EPC and other partners on process details in support of financial models and unit pricing
- Lead interactions with anode customers to ensure quality and consistency in PTX products
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- 10+ years of experience in carbon or ceramic manufacturing, with hands-on knowledge of anode material production from carbon feedstocks.
- Demonstrated success managing or advising on the transition from pilot to commercial-scale manufacturing in advanced materials or energy sectors.
- Deep familiarity with high-temperature materials processing, especially graphitization equipment and facility operations.
- Experience supporting military applications, with direct knowledge of DoD material qualification pathways.
Preferred Experience:
- Oversight of EPC contractors on high-value advanced manufacturing projects.
- ISO 9001:2008/2015 quality systems and QA/QC implementation in high-reliability environments.
- Engagement in R&D-to-commercial technology transitions involving proprietary processing methods.
