HVAC/R Technician
POSITION SUMMARY
The HVAC/R technician will be responsible for the continuous safe operations and preventative maintenance of all major HVAC/R equipment, including apartment/public area heat pumps, refrigeration equipment, cooling towers, pumps, motors, hot water systems, split systems, and mini split systems campus wide.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Coordinates with plant ops director for the purpose of completing projects and work orders efficiently.
- Informs personnel regarding procedures or status of work orders for the purpose of providing information for making decisions, taking appropriate action and or complying with building and safety standards.
- Performs routine and preventative maintenance as needed for the purpose of ensuring the ongoing functioning of all HVAC/R systems.
- Installs HVAC/R equipment for the purpose of providing enhanced and / or upgraded capabilities.
- Diagnoses cause of problems and/ or failures in HVAC/R systems for the purpose of identifying equipment and/or systems repair and/or replacement needs.
- Inspects HVAC/R systems and their components for the purpose of evaluating condition, identifying necessary repairs and recommending preventative maintenance.
- Repairs HVAC/R equipment for the purpose of ensuring a comfortable living and working environment.
- Requests equipment and supplies for the purpose of maintaining inventory and ensuring availability of items required to complete installation and /or repair.
- Prepares written materials (e.g., repair status, activity logs, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and information.
- Responds to emergency situations during or after hours for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns.
- Responds to work orders and assists with other facilities related projects as assigned and as staffing needs require.
- All plant operations staff are considered essential personnel before, during, and after emergencies.
- May require work on weekends, evenings, nights, and some holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma/GED and targeted job-related education from an accredited institution.
- Universal EPA refrigeration certificate
- Minimum 3 years of experience in HVAC/R field, commercial preferred, but not required.
SKILLS
- Ability to use ALL HVAC/R related tools, scales, meters, refrigerant recovery devices, and torches in a safe and efficient manner during the diagnosing, repair, and/ or replacement of HVAC/R systems and their components.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Occasional lifting carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; some climbing and balancing on ladders and/or scaffolding; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling; the job is performed under temperature extremes. Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds. Must be able to push or pull wheeled carts and/or equipment weighing 250 pounds over tiled or carpeted surfaces.
