Operating Engineer
We are seeking a skilled and safety-focused Operating Engineer to join our facilities and maintenance operations team. The Operating Engineer will be responsible for operating, maintaining, and repairing building systems and mechanical equipment to ensure optimal performance, safety, and reliability. This role plays a vital part in ensuring facility systems run efficiently and that all operations meet regulatory and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities-
Operate, monitor, and maintain mechanical systems including boilers, chillers, HVAC units, pumps, compressors, and control systems.

Perform preventive maintenance and inspections to ensure systems operate efficiently and safely.

Diagnose equipment malfunctions, perform repairs, and recommend corrective actions.

Monitor building automation systems (BAS) and make necessary adjustments to maintain environmental conditions.

Respond to service calls and emergency situations promptly and effectively.

Maintain logs of system operations, repairs, and maintenance activities.

Assist in the coordination of maintenance and repair projects with other trades.

Ensure compliance with OSHA, EPA, and local safety regulations.

Maintain clean and organized work areas and equipment rooms.

High school diploma or equivalent required; technical or vocational training in mechanical or building systems preferred.

Minimum of 3 years of experience as an operating engineer, building engineer, or related role.

Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems.

Experience operating and maintaining boilers, chillers, and related plant equipment.

Familiarity with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and building automation systems (BAS).

Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and schematics.

Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs, climb ladders, and work in mechanical spaces.

Valid driver’s license required; applicable licenses or certifications (e.g., EPA 608, boiler operator license) preferred.

Experience in commercial, institutional, or industrial facilities maintenance.

Knowledge of energy management and sustainability practices.

Basic plumbing, electrical, and general maintenance skills.
