Position Summary:

Reporting to our HVAC Supervisor, the person in this position is responsible for following company procedures and completing an average of 3-5 service calls per day from residential and commercial customers, following dispatch. The technician provides an excellent customer experience by delivering quality work on time, leaving the work area better than it was found, taking pictures, filling paperwork out properly, providing pixie dust, and collecting payment at the end of service. An EPHA HVAC Technician will mentor apprentices by teaching best practices for exceeding company goals.


Technician (HVAC)

•Adjust system controls to settings recommended by the manufacturer to balance the system and ensure optimal performance.

•Assist/oversee operators of cranes, hoists, or other moving or lifting equipment when necessary.

•Connect HVAC components and equipment to fuel, water, condensate or refrigerant source to form a leak-free connection and/or complete circuit.

•Identify opportunities, present options, and acquire commercial and residential maintenance agreements, equipment replacements, and IAQ (indoor air quality) and other system enhancements.

•Install auxiliary components to heating or cooling equipment, such as dehumidifiers, expansion or discharge valves, air ducts, pipes, blowers, dampers, flues, stokers, thermostats, humidistats, or timers.

•Install, service, maintain, and repair a wide range of residential and commercial HVAC equipment to improve efficiency. Includes changing filters, cleaning ducts, and adjusting refrigerant levels.

Install, service, or repair air purification systems, such as specialized filters or ultraviolet (UV) light purification systems; pipe systems to support alternative energy-fueled systems, such as geothermal heating or cooling systems; self-contained/hybrid ground/air source heat pumps to minimize carbon-based energy consumption and reduce carbon emissions.

•Interpreting various measurements, such as pressure, temperature, and wiring diagrams, and communicating installation instructions.

•Mount compressor, condenser, and other components in specified locations on frames, using hand tools and acetylene welding equipment.

•Perform mechanical overhauls and refrigerant reclaiming according to EPA 608 requirements.

•Perform preventive or general maintenance procedures, such as cleaning, power-washing, or vacuuming equipment, oiling parts, or changing filters.

Personnel Management Responsibilities:

This position has no personnel management responsibilities.

The individual in this position is given general direction from management in following established practices and policies.


Requirements:

Diploma from a trade school or successful completion of apprenticeship.

EPA 608 Type II and III are required.

EPA 608 Universal and NATE certifications are preferred.

Have basic hand and power tools (a list will be provided).

Load, unload, and secure equipment and material on vehicles and transport trailers according to guidelines.

Reads blueprints, construction plans & specifications.

Strong mechanical aptitude, and well-rounded hands-on mechanical skills.

Working knowledge of heating and ventilation systems as well as appliances.

A current, valid driver’s license, that meets insurance requirements, must be maintained throughout employment.

Able to lift 100 pounds.

Applies logic and can accurately follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.

High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Keeps professional grooming standards set by the company along with a clean and wrinkle-free uniform with appropriate work shoes as listed in the company handbook.

Knowledge of principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. This includes customer needs assessment, meeting quality standards for services, and evaluation of customer satisfaction.

Must be able to quickly learn and fully utilize software necessary to perform job duties.

Reliable transportation to and from work, including on-call shifts.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Subject to a pre-employment driver’s license, background check, and drug screening with follow-up random screening throughout employment.

Team Player - Follow all responsibilities and requirements required of team members to set an example for all to follow.

Physical Activity

While performing the duties of this position, the employee will predominantly work on their feet and use their hands throughout the course of the day. The employee is regularly expected to follow instructions, listen, speak, reach with hands and arms, carry heavy objects, stretch, twist, stoop, crouch, kneel or crawl, climb ladders, and work in tight spaces; therefore, good physical strength, manual dexterity, multilimbed coordination, and stamina is required.

Visual Activity

The minimum visual activity of the seeing job is both far and close to the eyes and requires the ability to drive, inspect, and view/read computer tablets, and paperwork regularly.

Work Environment

The work environment for this position will require the individual to endure all weather conditions while working inside and outside of buildings/structures. Exposure to fumes and chemicals is possible. The work environment will subject employees to continual interruptions and changing priorities; therefore, the ability to concentrate on a task, to achieve completion, is required.
