Human Resources Specialist
This role will be the right fit for an HR professional who may be looking to enhance their experience or wind down their HR activities while dealing with the day-to-day responsibilities of HR. You still want to be involved, just not with the big stuff. (If you are in HR, you know what the big stuff is).
What will you be doing?
Working with the HR Generalist and Payroll/Benefits Administrator to support a team of 140 amazing professionals, you will:
Recruit – With the help of an applicant tracking system, you will find the diamonds who will excel in a specialized, 5-star customer service environment.
Onboarding for all new hires – Setting the right tone as new team members start their career. This includes all the background set up for a new employee (thankfully there are checklists), ensuring the employee receives the correct sign-on forms (more checklists) and the access they need to be successful.
Oversee Company Uniform program - We provide all staff with uniforms for their position, including shoes. We have all items on hand or order directly from various suppliers. Our team needs to always look their best.
Day to Day HR – Answer the questions HR gets such as
- How many vacation days do I have?
- What are my benefits?
- Where can I find (fill in the blank)?
- Could I get a letter of employment?
Technology / Tools set up - We have embraced technology. With the help of IT, we set up iPhones, Google Drive and Microsoft Accounts. We are the catch all for questions and troubleshooting.
Other HR tasks - The above list is not all. There is more to the day-to-day work that we do. We have many on-going projects that you can be involved in.

- We work out of one location but engage with our team across the city. There are many team members that we don’t see till the quarterly meeting - thankfully there are pictures.
- You must be able to establish a relationship over Teams and through your communication
- You are quick to change from one task to another and be fluid to move as the day goes.
- You are comfortable collaborating with owners and senior management.
Who would you be working for?
McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, centrally located on Elbow Drive and 50th Ave SW. We have been serving Calgary for over 120 years. This is an in-office, Monday to Friday position. We do wear a uniform too (no more having to decide what to wear!)
