Summary of Duties:
Reporting to the Chief Administrative Officer and working with the Senior Leadership Team and staff, the Human Resources Manager will be responsible for providing leadership, professional knowledge, and guidance/ support in the design/ development, management, administration, and evaluation of Lil’wat? Nation human resource management affairs, including plans, policies, programs, processes/ procedures, information systems, reports, and files.
Expectations:
HR Administration
- Supports hiring managers with onboarding, internal movements, and offboarding processes.
- Supports hiring managers with their recruitment process by identifying candidates, assisting with interviews, performing reference checks, and issuing employment contracts.
- Develops job descriptions
- Perform other related duties as requested.
Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS)
- Manages the development and maintenance of the Human Resources sections of both the company website, particularly recruiting, culture, and company information.
- Utilizes the HRIS system to eliminate administrative tasks, empower employees, and meet the other needs of the organization.
Employee Relations
- Formulates and recommends Human Resources policies and objectives for the Nation on any topic associated with employee relations and employee rights.
- Partners with management to communicate Human Resources policies, procedures, programs, and laws.
- Conducts periodic surveys to measure employee satisfaction and employee engagement.
- Coaches and trains managers in their communication, feedback, recognition, and interaction responsibilities with the employees who report to them.
- Conducts investigations when employee complaints or concerns are brought forth.
- Monitors and advises managers and supervisors in the progressive discipline system of the company. Monitors the implementation of a performance improvement process with non-performing employees.
- Reviews, guides, and approves management recommendations for employment terminations.
- Leads the implementation of company safety and health programs.
- Review employee appeals through the Nation complaint procedure.
Training and Development
- Coordinates all Human Resources training programs and assigns the authority/responsibility of Human Resources and managers within those programs. Provides necessary education and materials to managers and employees including workshops, manuals, employee handbooks, and standardized reports.
- Leads the implementation of the performance management system that includes performance development plans (PDPs) and employee development programs.
- Establishes an in-house employee training system that addresses company training including, new employee onboarding or orientation, leadership management, effective communication, and others as needed.
Experience and Attributes:
- Related post-secondary degree/ diploma and formal training directly related Human Resources
- Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation
- Minimum of 6-8 years within the professional field of Human Resource Management, including three or more years at the management level
- Experience in the development and management/ administration of Human Resource plans, policies, and programs including, organization design, recruitment/ employment, direct and indirect compensation, employee performance evaluation and development, health and safety, harassment/ violence in the workplace, employee discipline, and funding
- Experience working with related federal and provincial government standards/ statutes, regulations, programs, and Agencies
- Excellent leadership, management, administration, development, coaching, communications (oral and written), organizational, consultative and training skills
- Ability to meet deadlines prioritize assignments, manage multiple tasks simultaneously, and maintain confidentiality.
- Strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Motivated self-starter and with strong interpersonal skills.
- Highly professional in all aspects of business, presentation, and interaction with all stakeholders, clients, and Members.
