Human Resources Advisor - Full Time
Calgary Humane Society is seeking a highly motivated and results oriented Human Resources professional to join our team. Reporting to the Director of Human Resources, the Human Resources Advisor plays a supportive and leadership role in the development and implementation of organizational and strategic outcomes as well as carrying out day-to-day Human Resources functions.
Duties:
· Provide guidance and answer questions to all levels of the organization on Society personnel policies, procedures, and practices.
· Provide coaching and advisory services to Managers and Directors with respect to engagement and retention, performance coaching and management, conflict resolution, and employee separation.
· Coordinate annual performance appraisals.
· Gather and submit salary data for compensation surveys and reports.
· Conduct stay and exit interviews as required.
· Support the Director of Human Resources with all aspects of talent management through focused implementation, execution, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all HR programs such as onboarding and orientation, training and professional development, employee rewards and recognition, compensation structure, succession planning, and other activities and programs in a way that supports internal equity and the organization's competitiveness.
· Explore and maintain positive relationships with post-secondary institutions to expand and enhance CHS’ student programming for capstone projects, internships, practicum placements, and work integrating learning.
· Coordinate training courses with external vendors.
· Coordinate and attend external hiring fairs promoting careers at Calgary Humane Society.
· Support the Director of Human Resources with the execution of strategic objectives.
· Serve as a member of the Wellness Committee and undertake special projects to advance psychological health and safety in the workplace, including organizing onsite Wellness Fairs, conducting employee surveys, and other activities to promote workplace mental health and wellness.
· Serve as a member of the Occupational Health and Safety Committee driving special projects, reviewing hazard assessments, reviewing and actioning incident reports, and staying up to date on provincial legislation as it relates to OH&S.
· Create and post career opportunities.
· Support hiring managers by assisting with interviews and conducting reference checks.
· Preparation of employment agreements and onboarding materials and communication.
· Electronic and paper filing and maintenance of personnel records.
· Coordination and administration of CHS’ benefits programs.
· Participate in administering WCB claims and disability management including medical leave and documentation, employee accommodations, and return to work programs.
· Foster a positive and inclusive work environment and champion CHS’ core values.
· Assist in other areas of the shelter when required, including feeding and cleaning of animals.
· Other duties as assigned.
Position Requirements:
Education:
· Certificate or Diploma in Human Resources Management or related field (equivalent combination of education and work experience may be considered).
· CPHR designation or working towards CPHR designation is strongly preferred.
· Minimum 5 years’ experience in a Human Resources Generalist role required.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
· General knowledge of Human Resources related legislation and standards including Employment Standards, Alberta Human Rights, Occupational Health and Safety, and privacy legislation.
· Previous experience working in a nonprofit setting an asset.
· Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
· Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with a keen attention to detail and accuracy.
· Demonstrated ability to maintain integrity, discretion, and confidentiality at all times.
· Able to effectively prioritize and respond quickly in a dynamic and ever-changing environment while balancing multiple priorities to deliver results with a strong desire to drive change, meet challenges, and perform to the highest standard.
· Previous demonstrated experience building strong working relationships at all levels of an organization.
· Personal values that align with the organization.
· Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft 365/Teams/Sharepoint.
· Previous experience working with Payworks HRIS or other HRIS systems as well as Applicant Tracking Systems.
· Flexibility to occasionally work outside of regularly scheduled shifts, including evenings or weekends for special events.
· Physically capable of and comfortable working with a variety of animal species including but not limited to cats, dogs, reptiles, rodents, rabbits, and other small critters.
· Successful candidate will be required to provide a Police Information Check to be arranged by CHS.
