The Maples is a senior living community which opened in 2018 in Antigonish, NS providing all-inclusive retirement living to our residents.  Our purpose is to provide a safe and enjoyable experience to our residents and enhance the quality of their everyday living.  For our residents at the Maples, it's all about living life to the fullest in a place that residents are proud to call home.

The Role

Under the direction of Management, the Resident Services Team Member is an integral and valuable role in the day to day operations at the Maples.  They are key to the residents' well being in that they provide light housekeeping, personal laundry, common area cleaning ce and standby assistance to all who live at the Maples.  You will serve as a positive role model and represent the Maples in a positive, efficient, professional and confidential manner. 

Responsibilities
  • Establish and maintain working relationships, perform all work in keeping with the Mission and Values of Maples Retirement Living.
  • Promote and maintain the safety of the staff, residents and visitors as a priority.
  • Demonstrate an understanding of the importance of respecting residents' rights, including:  respecting others, maintaining confidentiality, promoting independence, respecting privacy, respecting the right to refuse services and involvement.
  • Provide customized housekeeping and laundry service to all residents to meet established quality and resident satisfaction. 
  • Provide assistance to residents as directed in the individual service plan and approved by Management.
  • Maintain an awareness of the specific needs of each resident as to provide individualized service that meets and exceeds expectations.
  • Communicate with other members of the Resident Services Team and Management if there is a noted change in the health status of a resident (e.g. appears confused).
  • Assist in completing and updating appropriate records and forms in relation to each resident, housekeeping and laundry routines. 
  • Ensure the needs of the guests are being met. 
Requirements
  • High school/GED completion or prior experience in a similar role.
  • Experience in commercial housekeeping and/or laundry would be an asset.
  • Ability to work a schedule of flexible hours/shifts inclusive of day, evenings, weekends and holidays and nights.
  • Experience working in a healthcare or home care environment would be an asset.
  • Previous experience working with seniors or in a seniors living environment would be an asset. 
Daily Skills
  • Must be reliable and punctual.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Good organizational and time management skills with the ability to multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good personal hygiene and neatness.
  • Current CPR & First Aid Certificate is required,training to be provided by The Maples.
Safety Considerations
  • Wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including non-slip shoes and uniforms as required for the safe use of controlled products and hazardous materials (as indicated by WHMIS legislation and the controlled product Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Report all accidents/incidents immediately.
  • Report all unsafe and hazardous conditions/equipment immediately.
  • Comply with all infection control techniques, placement of bio-hazard containers and removal techniques, procedures and policies. 
  • Participate in Fire Safety and Emergency exercises.
  • Follow "Back in Form" and warm up and stretch prior to shifts.
In addition to the safety considerations above:
  • Moderate physical activity required, frequent lifting of objects up to 25 pounds, occasional lifting of objects up to 50 pounds; bending squatting, reaching and standing and/or walking for 3 hours or more per day.  Utilizing food service equipment such as: housekeeping carts, microfiber, mops, industrial laundry machines, ironing press. 
  • Typical indoor temperatures range between 20-28°C.  Outdoor trips for garbage removal or patio service (summer months) on a regular basis.  Conversational noise level in the dining rooms is to be expected as well as noise from dishwashers, TV's, radios, pagers etc.
