Housekeeper
A housekeeper in a skilled nursing facility (SNF) ensures a clean, sanitary, and safe environment for residents by cleaning rooms, bathrooms, and common areas while adhering to strict infection control protocols. Key duties include mopping, vacuuming, dusting, sanitizing surfaces, and removing waste, typically under the supervision of an Environmental Services Manager.
Key Responsibilities & Duties
- Cleaning & Sanitizing: Daily cleaning of resident rooms, bathrooms, hallways, and common areas to prevent the spread of illness.
- Infection Control: Adhering to proper sanitation procedures, including disinfecting high-touch areas, using proper PPE, and following chemical safety guidelines.
- Room Turnover: Performing terminal cleaning (deep cleaning) of rooms upon resident discharge or transfer.
- Maintenance of Areas: Sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and buffing floors; cleaning mirrors, windows, and light fixtures.
- Waste Management: Emptying trash containers, sanitizing wastebaskets, and handling biohazardous waste according to facility policy.
- Laundry & Supplies: Changing linens, distributing clean towels, and stocking supplies (soap, paper towels) in rooms and bathrooms.
- Interaction: Communicating with residents respectfully, respecting their privacy, and maintaining a comfortable home-like environment.
Requirements & Qualifications
- Skills: Strong attention to detail, ability to follow instructions, and knowledge of cleaning chemicals and equipment (buffers, vacuums).
- Physical Demands: Ability to stand/walk for long periods, and lift, push, or pull up to 50 lbs.
- Experience: Previous housekeeping experience in a healthcare or hospitality setting is often preferred.
