Horticulturist

As a Horticulturist at Potowomut Golf Club, you will play a vital role in the upkeep, maintenance, and enhancement of our plant life, flower beds, and overall landscaping. Your collaboration with our Grounds Department will ensure the health, aesthetic appeal, and sustainability of our outdoor spaces, contributing to a vibrant and welcoming environment for our members and guests. This role requires both a profound knowledge of horticulture and a genuine passion for nurturing beautiful landscapes.

- Design and Maintenance: Plan, design, and maintain exquisite flower beds, gardens, and green spaces throughout the country club property.

- Plant Health Management: Assess the health of plants and implement appropriate maintenance techniques, including fertilization, pruning, and pest control.

- Irrigation Oversight: Monitor irrigation systems and water usage to promote efficient operations and conservation.

- Collaboration: Work closely with groundskeepers and staff to maintain the overall beauty and functionality of the club’s outdoor areas.

- Research and Selection: Research and select plant species that thrive in our local climate and environment, promoting sustainable landscaping practices.

- Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of plant health, maintenance schedules, and horticultural activities to track progress and successes.

- Seasonal Support: Assist with seasonal plantings and preparations for special events to ensure our grounds are always at their best.

- Safety Compliance: Ensure all horticultural practices comply with safety protocols and environmental regulations.

- Educational Background: Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture, Botany, Environmental Science, or a related field (preferred).

- Relevant Experience: Previous experience in horticulture or landscaping, ideally within a golf course or country club environment.

- Technical Knowledge: Strong understanding of plant care, including expertise in local plant species, pests, diseases, and irrigation systems.

- Teamwork and Independence: Ability to work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

- Communication Skills: Excellent communication abilities and attention to detail.

- Physical Capability: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in varying weather conditions.

- Driver’s License: Valid driver’s license is required.
