HIM Supervisor

IMC is currently hiring a Supervisor for our Health Information Management (HIM) department, on a full time basis. The Health Information Supervisor oversees activities related to the development, implementation, and maintenance of health information in compliance with federal and state laws and generally accepted health information best practices.
WORK HOURS:
- 40 hours/week; sometimes more; sometimes less, or as required to provide departmental services as needed.
JOB RELATIONSHIP:
- Department Supervisor, with 7 FTE’s, 1 PRN, 2 contracted employees supervised
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 3 – 5 years supervision in Health Information / Medical Records preferred
- Bachelors or Associates degree in Health Information Management (other related degrees could be considered)
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) with the American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) preferred.
PRINCIPLE TASKS, DUTIES, AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for the supervision and operation of the Health Information Department.
- Responsible for the maintenance of patient records.
- Supervises functions including record processing and EHR maintenance, analysis, incomplete charts, birth certificate completion, and release of information.
- Supervises HIM department staffing including conducting counseling, discipline, and performance evaluations.
- Supervises the department in a cost-effective manner; prepares HIM department budget.
- Oversees the compilation of hospital wide statistics, data, and reporting.
- Serves as the facility’s Records Custodian, overseeing hospital and clinic based record maintenance and retention.
- Implements processes and systems to ensure accurate and complete medical record documentation and maintenance in the EMR.
- Communicates and works with physicians and departments to improve the quality of documentation.
- Maintains a positive working relationship with the Office of Vital Statistics, Paternity Establishment and other agencies concerning laws and regulations governing the completion of birth, fetal death, and delayed certificates.
- Ensures compliance with and is knowledgeable of state and federal laws and standards related record completion, release of information, and birth certificate completion, and the privacy and security of records.
- Participates in medical staff and hospital-wide committees.
- Establishes policies and procedures necessary for effective and efficient systems and supervision of staff supervised. Establishes and monitors standards of performance among all subordinates and ensures that standards are being consistently met.
- Maintains a sensitive, fair and impartial approach to dealing with employees.
- Performs other duties as required.
