About the Role
TREO Staffing is seeking an experienced Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic to support operations at the Port of New Orleans. In this full-time, direct hire position, you will diagnose, repair, and maintain a wide range of heavy mobile equipment including forklifts, cranes, loaders, and other industrial machinery.
This role is hands-on and essential to ensuring equipment is safe, reliable, and fully operational to meet daily demands.
Responsibilities
Equipment Maintenance & RepairPerform routine maintenance and inspections on heavy equipment according to manufacturer guidelines.
Diagnose mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical issues using specialized tools and diagnostic equipment.
Repair or replace faulty components including engines, transmissions, brakes, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
Interpret and work from electrical and hydraulic schematics.
Perform repairs both in the shop and in field locations as needed.
Operate shop equipment such as cranes, welders, grinders, compressors, and power tools.
Safely lift and install heavy parts and assemblies using correct PPE and procedures.
Ensure all maintenance and repair work complies with safety standards and regulations.
Maintain detailed records of work orders, repairs, and parts used.
Stay current with equipment updates, repair techniques, and industry best practices.
Assist and collaborate with other mechanics and technicians when needed.
Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and operations personnel.
Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent required.
Technical or vocational training in heavy equipment mechanics preferred.
3+ years of experience as a heavy mobile equipment mechanic (preferred).
Strong understanding of diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and transmissions.
Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, diagrams, and schematics.
Must have your own tools required for the job.
Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
TWIC card required.
Skills
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills for diagnosing complex equipment issues.
Proficiency with hand tools, power tools, diagnostic equipment, and computer-based systems.
Excellent attention to detail and commitment to high-quality work.
Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
Preferred Skills
Welding experience
Forklift or equipment certifications
Experience performing field repairs
