POSITION SUMMARY
Are you passionate about safety, training, and helping others grow in their careers? TNDC is looking for an Equipment Trainer to join our high-performing team. In this role, you’ll deliver hands-on training and assessments for heavy equipment operators, ensuring safe and effective operation of a variety of machinery. You’ll work closely with site leadership and crews to support skill development, uphold safety standards, and promote continuous improvement on the job. This position operates on a rotational shift schedule (12-hour days) based on project needs and offers the opportunity to make a real impact in a dynamic, fast-paced environment. Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Facilitate Project orientations, classroom training and practical training on the job.
- Facilitate pre-trip/walk-around safety inspections with employees and review Field Level Hazard Assessments.
- Professionally address safety initiatives and training in public venues, large gatherings, etc.
- Able to articulate clear and concise instructions and always maintain a high level of professionalism while treating all employees with respect.
- Demonstrate/articulate the operation of heavy equipment safely and efficiently to trainees.
- Follow all site, company and client specific safety protocols, policies, and procedures.
- Caterpillar simulator training experience considered an asset.
- Be able to work independently and as a team.
- Able to prioritize tasks and demonstrate good time management.
- Complete all documentation and iPad tasks in a timely manner.
- Willingness to learn new tasks and technics to enhance your knowledge and grow with TNDC.
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of hands-on experience operating heavy equipment (e.g., excavators, dozers, graders, haul trucks, loaders) in a construction, mining, or industrial environment.
- Previous experience training, mentoring, or assessing equipment operators is strongly preferred.
- Thorough understanding of safety standards and operational procedures related to heavy equipment use.
- Knowledge of workplace safety regulations (e.g., WorkSafe BC, OH&S).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to deliver feedback and instruction clearly and respectfully.
- Demonstrated ability to evaluate competency and identify training needs.
- Comfortable working independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
- Strong organizational and documentation skills; ability to maintain accurate records and training logs.
- Proficient with basic computer applications, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook); familiarity with digital training platforms is an asset.
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license; Class 1 or 3 is an asset.
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts on a rotational schedule in a remote or camp-based environment.
- Train the Trainer certification or equivalent credential is considered an asset.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Knowledge of BC Mines Act and Regulations preferred
- Knowledge of WorkSafe BC regulations, policies, guidelines, and standards
- Working knowledge of health, safety and environmental protection practices and procedures
- Competence in conflict and crisis management
- Capable of providing guidance and advice in a collaborative manner
- Proven knowledge of mobile equipment safety practices
- Ability to write Field Level Hazard Assessments
- Basic computer literacy, including experience with Outlook, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and PDF’s
- Ability to learn and understand software programs
- Technologically savvy and quick to embrace new equipment technologies
- Being open and interested in ongoing learning
- Ability to take direction, follow instructions and adapt to changing priorities and multi-tasking
- Excellent communicator with problem-solving abilities
- Ability to follow rules and regulations of job sites
- Strong work ethic, with an ability to work independently and efficiently, with minimal supervision
- Ability to establish and maintain confidentiality
- Self-motivated, team-player with good interpersonal skills that can build a healthy work culture
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Pass mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol screening and fitness for work assessment where required.
- Valid class 5 driver’s license required
- First Aid Certification
- Willingness to sign an Oath of Confidentiality
- Completion of Pre-Start Meeting Training (PSM)
- Completion of Fatality Risk Management (FRM)
