Position Summary:

We are seeking a Heavy Equipment Road Mechanic to perform various heavy equipment repairs and routine maintenance at our construction sites. This individual is responsible for performing a variety of skilled mechanical tasks involving minor and major mechanical service of light, medium, and heavy equipment, trailers, dump trucks, and other power-driven equipment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

The essential functions include, but are not limited to the following:

Respond to service calls of job-site equipment 

Understand and follow technical manuals, lube orders, wiring and hydraulic schematics to ensure proper diagnosis and repair 

Perform major repair jobs by disassembling and cleaning parts, removing components, removal and installation of assemblies and installation of components 

Complete minor repairs and perform services as outlined in technical manuals 

Perform all necessary repairs to keep our fleet in safe operating condition 

Assist with maintenance and cleanliness of vehicles when necessary

Ability to operate, inspect, troubleshoot, diagnostics/defects/malfunctions and determine required repairs on heavy equipment

Conducts preventive maintenance to avoid unnecessary repairs and downtime on all types of equipment

Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities):

Must have a CDL Class B valid Driver’s license with a good driving record

Minimum 5 years’ experience as a heavy equipment road mechanic

Must be able to pass a pre-employment drug screen

An emphasis on safety on and off the road

Punctual and reliable; good attendance required

Strong communication and organization skills

Knowledge of DOT standards and requirements

Ability to work in a fast-paced environment

Understand and follow directions from supervisors

Familiar with heavy equipment models along with different earth moving equipment

Familiar with scan tools

Proven work experience maintaining and repairing heavy equipment 

Must be able to diagnose and repair equipment 

Must be up to date with technology used on newer equipment.


Physical Demands and Work Environment:

Job requires the following motions: stretching, bending, lifting, pushing, pulling, twisting, walking, standing, reaching, and squatting 

Excellent manual dexterity to use hand tools and portable power equipment 

Physical ability to work under temperature extremes and for extended hours of time. 

Willingness to work under various site conditions and to travel to different project sites within the Baltimore-Washington Metropolitan area 

May be exposed to extremes of hot or cold weather 

Ability to be flexible with last minute schedule changes and shift changes. Overtime work will be required

401K - The company will match your dollar for dollar up to the first 1% then $.50 on the dollar on the next 5%. So, if you wanted to take full advantage of the match, you would have to put in 6% to be matched 3.5%.
