Job Outline
Camp Kandalore is seeking apositive, adaptable and detail-oriented Head of Waterski - Program Manager to oversee and manage its Waterski program, including waterskiing, wakeboarding, waterski, knee-boarding, wake-surfing and tubing and support with special events.
The successful applicant will work to facilitate impactful experiences for our campers through our Waterski program that includes waterskiing, wakeboarding, waterski, knee-boarding, wake-surfing and tubing. This individual will be directly responsible for the safety, enjoyment and learning of all campers during waterski periods and management of the waterski staff team of counsellors. This individual will be enthusiastic, camper-centric, team-oriented and able to cope with a busy camp atmosphere.
Our Head of Waterski will be responsible for the facilitation, management and organization of the Waterski program and enforcement of all waterfront safety policies and procedures in accordance with Ontario Camps Association and Waterski and Wakeboard Ontario (WSWO) standards at the waterski docks. Duties include developing skill-based lessons and calendars, assessing and managing risk, ensuring a culture of safety and inclusivity, managing behavioral issues, and mentoring staff and campers.
This position includes room and board, and a fantastic summer at camp. As a condition of employment, a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
Minimum Qualifications
National Lifeguard – Pool
Standard First Aid and CPR-C
Experience with watersports, specifically waterskiing, wakeboarding, knee-boarding, wake-surfing and tubing
Pleasure Craft Operator Card and experience driving boats
Experience working with children
WSWO Foundations Trained Certification (parts 1 and 2) or willingness to obtain
Responsibilities Include
Manage the entire Waterski program, including waterskiing, wakeboarding, and knee boarding, and tubing ensuring the safety, enjoyment and learning of all campers and staff.
Maintain and enforce all safety policies and procedures throughout the waterski program, ensuring that staff and campers always adhere to safety standards.
Lead a team of waterski staff, providing regular feedback, support, and coaching through informal discussions and bi-weekly performance reviews. Ensure high-quality instruction and safety standards.
Design and implement lesson plans tailored to different age groups and skill levels, ensuring a focus on skill development and progression.
Track each camper’s progress, completing report cards at the end of each session.
Facilitate opportunities for further skill development during free activity times, offering further development for campers who seek additional challenges.
Conduct written evaluations for Leadership campers every two weeks, providing constructive feedback to assist with their skill and personal development.
Continuously seek ways to improve the waterski program by implementing engaging, innovative ideas to foster camper growth and enjoyment.
Oversee the maintenance, care, and handling of all waterski equipment, including boats, lifejackets, skis and boards, ensuring everything is properly maintained, organized, and in good working order each day.
Maintain an understanding of program needs and inventory, communicating any equipment or staffing needs as required.
Participate in additional camp duties such as supervision during camper down times (rest hour, free time, evenings) and supporting special programs or camp-wide events as needed.
Actively contribute to the overall camp life by participating in camp events and fostering a positive, engaging environment.
