Green Team Member (Summer Term)

TITLE:   MSP Community Green Team (Term till September 30, 2024)

LOCATION: 661 Main Street

DEPARTMENT: Facilities        

REPORTS TO: Facilities Manager

WAGE: $18 per hour


POSITION SUMMARY

These positions are responsible for the beautification of Main Street, Martha Street, and Henry Avenue area. The work would be to not only clean the area but to develop systems to keep the area clean, like developing proper trash collection with partners in the area, ensuring the proper waste receptacles are in the area and working with the broader community to get people to take pride in the area. 


RESPONSIBILITES: Main Street Project has 7 community-use facilities making up its "campus" that are highly utilized and visible to the public based on their street-facing locations. They all require outdoor upkeep and beautification including: 
  •  Litter control 
  •  Window washing 
  •  Light painting 
  •  Light building maintenance 
  •  Garden planting, watering, maintenance 
  •  Other community-guided small-scale projects such as seating, lighting, cultural or recreation installations, to be determined 
  •  Work will be guided by the community and neighborhood partners, and supervised by Main Street Project onsite Facilities Manager
  • Based on the funding requirements for this position, applicants must be youth aged 15-29 years and a Manitoba resident who is legally entitled to work in Canada. 
  • Experience working or volunteering with community organizations, individuals experiencing homelessness, mental health related issues, or with those living in poverty an asset.
  • Ability to perform physical work, including working in outdoor elements and lifting up to 50 lbs. unaided is required.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with community members, volunteers and co-workers.
  • Ability to work well under stressful conditions, negotiate different personalities and work under competing priorities while managing a wide variety of tasks.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Clear Vulnerable Sector Search and Clear Adult Abuse Registry Check required.
  • Valid Driver’s License an asset

QUALIFICATIONS
