Responsible for generating and assessing geological, mineralisation, and grade models for growth scenarios and asset-transformational projects. Brings global, cross-disciplinary geological breadth, strong conceptual thinking across the full range of ore system possibilities and produces fit-for-purpose resource models that inform investment and portfolio decisions. Will work a 5-2 schedule, in a hybrid arrangement with days spent at the Montreal office.
Duties and responsibilities • Review data room information including resource and reserve statements, block models, geological databases, QAQC, mine designs, schedules, costs, and technical reports; • Develop conceptual geological models from aspirational to advanced levels, incorporating full ore system potential across multiple geological scenarios; • Generate fit-for-purpose resource estimations and simulations through advanced geostatistical techniques, calibrated to available data and decision requirements; • Produce high-quality resource models considering financial and strategic impacts on mining and exploration decisions; • Prepare and present geological information and resource estimates to senior management and stakeholders, including Board and Executive Committee; • Conduct comprehensive technical reviews and produce decision-ready reports; • Undertake technical work supporting growth, asset strategic planning, and portfolio scenario development; • Conduct thorough due diligence across technical, geological, and financial aspects; • Assist with data preparation for Board and Executive Committee submissions; • Conduct site visits domestically and internationally as required; • Stay current with advancements in geological modelling and resource estimation; • Work independently and collaboratively within multi-disciplinary project teams.
Required qualifications
• Hold a relevant university degree in geology; • Have 20 years’ relevant professional experience in technical, project-related and operational roles; • Experience covering exploration, resource geology and/or mining geology; • Experience with various types of deposits; ability to evaluate unfamiliar mineralisation styles based on fundamental principles; · International and multi-jurisdictional experience; • Bilingual, will be required to collaborate with members of the global Gold Fields team.
Technical skills • Possess extensive geological and mining knowledge covering exploration, resource geology and mining contexts; • Be familiar with various types of mineralisation and deposits; • Possess a global and multi-jurisdictional perspective based on experience gained in numerous countries and regions; • Possess a keen financial acumen and a solid understanding of key value drivers; • Be proficient in multiple non-linear techniques for estimating recoverable resources and conditional simulation for geological and grade modelling, as well as for assessing deposit-related risks; • Be proficient in grade control practices and model reconciliation processes; • Possess advanced skills in 3D geological modelling for the estimation of mineral resources across various types of deposits; • Knowledge of underground and open-pit mining environments; • Solid experience with modern implicit modelling tools and advanced geostatistical methods.
