Reporting to the underground geology supervisor, the geologist is responsible for the daily follow-up of assigned drills, core description and sampling.
Duties and responsibilities
•Describe the drill core using the appropriate software (lithological description, sampling);
•Send daily drilling reports;
•Supervise drilling rigs and monitor drilling deviations;
•Planning and implementation of boreholes;
•Produce survey summaries;
•Compile analysis data and manage database and drilling;
•Supervise personnel (technicians, drillers);
•Participate in, supervise and lead underground mapping and sampling projects;
•Participate in the drafting of technical reports for the company, partners (where applicable) or MERN (statutory work) based on the compilation and interpretation of data collected;
•Ensure that work is carried out in compliance with operational guidelines (E3, partner guidelines) and government legislation (mining, forestry, environment, C.S.S.T., municipalities and M.R.C.);
•Comply at all times with occupational health and safety and environmental policies and regulations;
•Carry out any other tasks related to the position of geologist/CPI/geological engineer that are relevant to the success of the project.
Qualifications required
•University degree in geology or geological engineering;
•Be a member of the Ordre des géologues du Québec (OGQ), as a geologist-in-training/geologist, or of the Ordre des ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ), as a CPI/engineer;
•A valid class 5 driver's license;
•Very good knowledge of French (spoken and written). French is the first language at work;
•Mining modules 1-2-3-4-5 and 7 (an asset).
Technical skills
•Fluency in spoken and written English (an asset);
•Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite software (Excel, Outlook) as well as specialized software such as Datamine and Leapfrog;
•Good knowledge of laws and regulations applicable to exploration and mining sites.
Basic skills
•Excellent team player, tactful and politically astute;
•Be adaptable and open to change and constructive feedback;
•Good organizational skills and ability to recognize priorities;
•Be autonomous, have initiative and be able to handle several files simultaneously;
•Demonstrate rigor, ethics and integrity.
