Summary
The General Kitchen Worker is responsible for preparing, portioning, and serving food to residents, staff, and guests, and for ensuring the cleanliness and readiness of dining areas and kitchen spaces. This position plays a vital role in maintaining high standards of food service and sanitation.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities   Include the following; other duties may be assigned:

Healthcare Setting:


·   Assemble and deliver floor supplies according to posted standards.

·   Read spreadsheets to determine quantities and types of food to be portioned.

·   Use appropriate dishes and portioning tools to serve hot and cold food into individual plates or containers.

·   Deliver hot carts and return dirty dishes to assigned neighborhoods.

·   Set up dining rooms, steam tables, beverage carts, and refrigerator/ice bars for meals.

·   Read menus or tray tickets and serve appropriate food and beverages.

·   Ensure plates and china are at proper temperatures throughout service.

·   Clean steam tables and send hot boxes to the dish room.

·   Report to dish room or perform dining room cleaning as assigned.


Main Dining Room:


·   Set up dining room and wait stations before meals.

·   Take resident orders and serve meals according to service standards.

·   Clear tables and clean dining areas after meals.

·   Wrap silverware and stock wait stations.

·   Record resident attendance and expedite food from kitchen to dining room.


Cafeteria:


·   Set up steam table, salad bar, and cold bar for service.

·   Prepare short orders as requested.

·   Maintain cleanliness of the service area during meals.

·   Prepare and store food for night shift staff.

·   Prep food for pizza, salad bar, and cold bar.

·   Operate the cash register.

·   Clean up all service areas at end of shift.


Coordinator Responsibilities:


·   Set up dining room and wait stations before each meal.

·   Take resident orders and serve meals according to standards.

·   Clear tables and clean the dining area.

·   Wrap silverware and stock supplies.

·   Record attendance and assist on the evening service line.

·   Oversee and check out servers during the evening shift.


General Duties (All Areas):


·   Wash and store dishes, utensils, pots, pans, and cooking equipment according to policies.

·   Dispose of waste per department procedures.

·   Store food and supplies properly.

·   Perform scheduled general cleaning duties.

·   Maintain an organized, clean, and sanitary workspace.

·   Complete assigned duties within established timeframes.

·   Participate in department and organization-wide meetings, training, in-services, & educational programs.

 


Supervisory Responsibilities
This position does not have supervisory responsibilities.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience
Less than a high school education is acceptable. Previous food service experience is helpful but not required.

Language Skills
Ability to read and understand simple instructions, short memos, and routine correspondence. Ability to write simple notes or messages.

Mathematical Skills
Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide using American currency and standard measurements of weight, volume, and distance.

Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense and follow simple one- or two-step instructions. Able to respond appropriately to standardized situations with limited variation.

Physical Demands
This position requires regular standing, walking, and manual dexterity. Must be able to use hands, talk, hear, taste, and smell. Frequent reaching and occasional sitting, stooping, kneeling, or crouching are required. Regularly lift and move up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds. Visual demands include close and distance vision, color perception, peripheral vision, depth perception, and focus adjustment.
