Funeral Attendant

Calgary, AB Full-time $21.00/hour

McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, a family-owned company that has been part of the Calgary community and leader in the funeral services industry for over 120 years, is seeking a dedicated and professional Funeral Attendant to join our dynamic and growing team.  

This full-time position works 75 hours bi-weekly with every third weekend off. The core hours for this role are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  with modified hours for scheduled evenings or longer days.  

What You’ll Do: 
This is a key role in the successful execution of providing customer service for funerals and related activities.  Success in this position involves a strong belief in customer service, high attention to detail, a caring and professional demeanor, appearance, and a willingness to do whatever is required in providing excellence in customer service. 

 Position Duties
Assist in preparing and working funeral services
Setting up the chapel or church for the funeral service, as well as items that are particular to the service such as flowers, photo displays, memorabilia, or culturally specific items
Loading of funeral vehicles with required equipment
Transport of families to the service and/or graveside and to and from the home residence
Welcoming families to the chapel for funeral or visitation services
Handing out funeral service folders and providing seating guidance (ushering)
Bringing the casket or urn into the chapel and guiding pallbearers in their roles
Assisting licensed directors with daily tasks
Care and upkeep of Funeral Home facilities, equipment, grounds and vehicles
Other duties as assigned 

What You Bring: 
Completion of the Funeral Director diploma or enrollment in the program is considered an asset
Professional, helpful, and caring demeanor
Able to lift and carry up to 50 kg and move a casket
Current Class 5 (non GDL) driver’s license with a driver’s abstract with six or less demerits
Clean driving record and insured for a minimum of 3 years
Excellent oral communication skills. A second language is considered an asset
Strong customer service skills
Sensitivity to cultural practices
A clear background check (Security Clearance)
Availability to work all shifts as scheduled, including weekends and holidays with the ability to work past scheduled hours as required to meet the needs of the families we serve

 What We Offer: 
Starting wage of $21/hour
Core shift times of 8:30am – 4:30pm, 75 hours biweekly
