The Healing Lodge of the Seven Nations is a youth residential treatment facility which provides a safe and caring healing environment for adolescents. Located on 51 acres, our wellness program provides a peaceful environment for treatment balanced in traditional, cultural and spiritual values and practices. These values and practices foster respect, honesty, generosity, strong cultural identification and hope for positive life changes. The Healing Lodge treatment program integrates traditional, spiritual and cultural values with chemical dependency and mental health counseling to create a holistic approach toward healing. Residents include both Native American and non-Native from all areas of the country.

The Rotating RN/LPN provides nursing assessments and triage to appropriate level of care to meet medical needs, including health and medication education to adolescent residents. Assists Medical Director in ensuring agency-wide program compliance with requirements and government reporting regulations affecting overall facility function (e.g., CARF, JCAHO, WAC, IHS, WA State Dept. of Health). This position maintains medical records and other mandated documentation in accordance with state regulations for a residential treatment facility.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Performs nursing intake assessment on residents within 24 hours of admission.
2. Performs daily assessments of medical complaints, including making appropriate referrals.
3. Assists with scheduling appointments, communicating with Medical Director and Behavioral Health Director, and informing treatment team of resident status.
4. Perform delegated independent nursing functions using established policies, procedures, guidelines and standards as observed by medical director.
5. Provides nursing recommendations for resident discharge planning.
6. Educates residents and staff regarding medications, treatment plan, and diagnostic tests.
7. Performs first aid procedures including dressings, medications, and suture removal.
8. Receives and transcribes new orders and updates medication administration records daily.
9. Obtains medications from pharmacy as necessary.
10. Routinely checks for expired medications and reorders if necessary.
11. Maintains medical records for review by Medical Director and State inspectors.
12. Collects and prepares laboratory specimens for courier pick up, arranges for onsite lab draws, and performs in house diagnostic tests (i.e. pregnancy test, drug screen, glucose monitoring).
13. Reviews lab reports and discusses results with Medical Director (if appropriate) and will advise the treatment team of health issues impacting resident’s participation.
14. Routinely conducts inventory audits of medical supplies and medical instruments and equipment and re-order or replace as needed.
15. Routinely check refrigerator log and calibration.
16. Dispose of biohazard waste according to OSHA/WISHA standards and HL7N policy.
17. Provide group education with residents on topics such as sex education, CPR, hygiene and health related matters.
18. Assist in ensuring medical department meets all licensing, contractual, and quality assurance standards/requirements.
19. Participates in overall facility and program quality improvement process.
20. “Standing doctor’s orders”: Maintains current all records of active/inactive Standing Doctors Orders.
Position Requirements

Education and/or Experience:
· Current State of Washington Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) with three years of experience
· Ability to function within the framework of a multi-disciplinary team approach to treatment
· Ability to handle stressful situations
· Experience working with Native American adolescents preferred
· Training and work experience in an adolescent residential treatment environment preferred
Certificates, Licenses, or Registrations:
· Registered Nurse or Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN)
· Washington State Driver’s License
· AHA BLS/CPR
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must have basic knowledge in MS Office Suite, including Outlook, Word, Excel, & PowerPoint.
