Forklift Operator
SUMMARY:
Forklift operators ensure the safe and efficient movement of packaged materials. Operators move packaged material in a warehouse and load packaged material in trailers or containers. They must complete all necessary inventory and loading paperwork and are required to inspect the forklifts on a daily basis. Operators are expected to keep the work area clean and safe and assist the packaging and shipping crews as needed.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
- Complete daily forklift inspection and Daily Forklift Production Log
- Collect pick tickets from Traffic Coordinator
- Verify the pick ticket matches the customer order and any labels
- Load van trailers and containers
- Verify special loading instructions are followed
- Inspect the trailer and materials prior to loading
- Complete any necessary repacks or re-classification
- Assist with packaging lines if needed
- Ensure correct packaging supplies are available and pulled based on pack out information
- Move packaged material from line to warehouse
- Verify packaging markings and labels with customers’ original instructions
- As bags are packaged, store them in staging area or designated warehouse location
- Inspect pallets to ensure no damage or issues
- Notify crew leaders of the quantity and warehouse location of packaged product
- Assist crew in duties as instructed by the Crew Leader
EDUCATION:
- Must have a high school diploma or equivalent.
EXPERIENCE:
- Minimum three (3) years of experience operating a forklift required.
- Previous experience in specialty equipment handling and expertise in loading unloading pipe.
- Previous warehouse experience preferred.
- Previous OSHA and hazardous materials training preferred.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATIONS:
- Must have a current Texas driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
- Class B CDL preferred, but not required.
- Fork lift certification (Training will be provided by the company. Must be able to pass operating and written test.)
SKILLS:
Must have the following skills and/or abilities:
- Proven experience as forklift operator.
- Attention to detail and familiarity with industrial equipment.
- Ability to read and understand packaging, shipping documents, and safety guidelines.
- Capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Knowledge of how to perform basic math functions.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination, peripheral vision, and ability with spatial relationships.
- Working knowledge of basic tools. (Vehicle maintenance experience is a plus.)
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Good digital processing skills for inventory tracking.
- Strong organization, attention to detail, problem-solving, and time management skills.
- Ability to work well under pressure.

- Stand for 4–8 hours while loading, unloading, and securing cargo; maintaining tools and equipment; and ensuring hazard-free work areas.

- Constant use of fingers and hands when handling equipment including cargo securement straps, chains, binders, and tie-downs.
- The use of common hand tools and occasionally sharp tools are involved.
- Repetitive squatting, reaching, and throwing motions may be used to perform the job duties.
- The employee is frequently required to talk, hear, and communicate with other employees.
- Lift, carry, push, or pull up to 50 lbs. of material, supplies, and cargo. (Request help for loads over 75lbs.)
- Specific vision abilities required by this job include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth perception.
- Climb and descend a ladder and stairs when going into or onto a truck or trailer to load, unload, and secure material, supplies, and cargo.
- Wear steel-toe boots; a hard hat; and safety-approved glasses, gloves, long sleeves, and pants.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
The work environment is a combination of indoors and outdoors and may require working in all types of weather conditions, including exposure to extreme heat, cold, and noise. Employees may ascend and descend from dangerous heights, including standing and walking on high platforms. Use of a variety of machinery and hand-operated equipment to perform duties. Local travel may be required.
