POSITION SUMMARY 

Under the direction of the General Manager, Hospitality, the Food Services and Hospitality Coordinator’s key responsibility is to provide administrative and operational support to Frontiers North’s (FN’s) hospitality team, assisting daily operations to be executed effectively and efficiently while  helping to ensure the long-term success of Frontiers North’s (FN’s) properties that include the 31-room Tundra Inn, the 144-seat Tundra Pub seasonal restaurant and pub, and the 50-seat bistro and café, the Ptarmigan.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES*

  • Complete hotel and restaurant administrative tasks including:
    • Using hotel and restaurant information systems (RoomKey PMS and Lightspeed POS) to enter data, prepare invoicing, update accounting records, and complete account reconciliations and reports in a timely and accurate manner.
    • Computing staff tip-outs and ensuring their timely and accurate delivery to payroll for processing.
    • Placing and tracking supply orders and completing inventory reports.
    • Coordinate with the tours and activities team to ensure that restaurant reservations and hotel blocks for group bookings are properly scheduled and communicated.
    • Update and edit menus using the templates provided by the marketing team.
    • Assist with staff onboarding and scheduling.
    • Assist with creating and implementing policies and protocols that will maintain future restaurant operations.
    • Assist with coordinating needed workplace health and safety and other regulatory inspections.
  • Provide operational support as needed to:
    • Coordinate daily front of house restaurant operations.
    • Deliver superior service and maximize customer satisfaction.
    • Respond efficiently and accurately to customer concerns.
    • Regularly review product quality.
    • Serve, expedite food orders, and bus tables on an as needed basis.
    • Assist with hiring, scheduling, training, and supervising restaurant employees.
    • Assist with appraising staff performance and providing feedback to improve productivity.
    • Ensure compliance with sanitation and safety regulations.
    • Oversee seasonal start-up and shutdown of restaurants.
    • Manage restaurants’ good images and suggest ways to improve upon them.
    • Control operational costs and identify measures to cut waste.
    • Promote the brand in the local community through word-of-mouth and restaurant events.
    • Assist with hotel front desk and housekeeping duties and administration at the Tundra Inn.

Workplace Health and Safety

  • Follow provincial standards for safe food handling and cleaning procedures.
  • Follow the Workplace Safety and Health Act and Regulation standards and protocols and all Frontiers North health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Attend all safety meetings as required.
  • Ensure work areas are clean, sanitary, well-organized, and hazard free.

SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Post-secondary/vocational education/training in restaurant or hospitality management or an acceptable combination of education and experience.
  • Prior experience in restaurant or hospitality management or a similar role is an asset.
  • 5+ years’ experience working in customer service in the food services or hospitality industry.
  • Valid FoodSafe, SafeCheck, Food Handler, Smart Choices for Responsible Service, or equivalent certification is required.
  • Valid Class 4 driver’s licence (buses up to 24 passengers), or the ability to obtain one is required.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills in English; other languages are an asset.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a computer, including Mac operating systems, Google Workspace, Microsoft Office, Internet, and server databases.
  • Demonstrated ability to use a point of sale (POS) system to place food and beverage orders and process payments.
  • Financial management skills.
  • Strong time management skills and the ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision.
  • Flexible and resourceful with challenges that rise from working in a remote, northern location.
  • Excellent customer service skills, including interpersonal skills, empathy, and patience.
  • Must be able to work individually and as part of a team.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Job is in Churchill, Manitoba, a remote, northern location accessible only by train or aircraft.
  • Mix of dining room, kitchen, office, and hotel setting.
  • Must be of legal age to serve liquor.
  • Must be able to stand and walk for 8-12 hours per day.
  • Must be able to safely lift 23 kilograms (50 pounds).
  • Must be able to serve and work in close proximity to a variety of potential food allergens including, but not limited to, citrus, strawberries and other fruits and vegetables, peanuts and other nuts and legumes, pork, poultry, beef, bison, shellfish/seafood, fish, and other meats.
  • The ability to travel to Winnipeg, Manitoba and other locations by air, vehicle, and/or train is required.
  • Dress code is in effect.
  • Closed-toe, slip-resistant, comfortable footwear is required.
  • Staff housing is available.
  • Overtime may be required during evenings, weekends, and on holidays.
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
